Plane was NOT toast, video is up, getting better at flying it. Lesser "pukecam" for sure. I have to admit, this is pretty fun stuff but at my stage, I'm still very ok with the shorter length flights. Although I lander it after 4 minutes, it was more because Elin was cold, and the fact I was a little unsure about the wind (which was picking up). The plane had LOTS of juice left.
I really appreciate hearing that comment, I feel I worked pretty hard at it. One of the reasons why I'm working so hard is that I'm not using good software for doing this. Software used:
Nero. Yeah, DVD Burning software Nero, or rather to be specific: Nero Vision which has an ok movie creation mode. MP3DirectCut (for editing MP3's, adding simple fade, etc). MaximDL: For the various titles screens you see. , for those unaware, MaximDL is an astronomy related post processing software , but I'm trying to use what I have and to do everything "legal".
Still, it is limiting and in this era, it doesn't hurt to have a half-decent PC. My 7 year old 2.4ghz single core PC is a pain in the a** sometimes and patience is required for at least the various encoding parts. That little video represents about 8 hours of work. The difficult parts are: Finding the correct music (see creativecommons.org for great free music); editing said music (by adding fade when required), creating all the title/story screens, adjusting the length of time for each screens, adjusting / re-adding each of the video streams; for every edit, that means I have to re-add each video, find the correct time that lapsed between each video so that it is timed appropriately... this is done by hand by replaying the video over and over. Adding transitions, re-adjusting the timing of everything (to ensure there is sufficient time to read the text before advancing to the next scene). Finally, just fitting the music so that events on screen fit in with key music sections (ie: it's not a coincidence that when the song ends with "fading away" is when you see me "fading away").
Lots of work but I did find it incredibly rewarding. I doubt my sense of humour comes across well in this one but I liked writing "the story". This is after all a video of a RC plane but there has to be a better way to make it entertaining; there are so many of them on youtube now.
Using decent software helps immensely... Like Loafer was saying... I use decent sound editing software AND decent video editing software. Then like Loafer said matching the 2 (sound/music and video) becomes much easier.
