WARNING!!! fOUL LANGUAGE AHEAD!!! NOT FOR THE VIRGIN EYES...

THIS IS ONE F#@*#@# SERIOUS RANT AGAINST ACTIVE ELECTRONICS ON FERRIER IN MONTREAL...

OK people... being an administrator of this site, it is my duty to stay as neutral as possible and not influence anybody about any other person or store... but I have had just about enough of one F#@*#@# store in Montreal... and that store is Active Electronics on Ferrier/Decarie Blvd..

It seems that every time I've gone there, it always seems like you are bothering them... always in a shitty mood. I went last Thursday to order 4 big capacitors to start rebuilding my Tron and Discs of Tron. Of course they don't have any in stock since these are fairly large, but after searching with such great enthusiasm (!!!) on his computer, the clerk tells me they will be in on Monday and they will call when they come in.

I wasn't counting on a call because the last 3 times I ordered something, they "neglected" to let me know the stuff was in. So tonight, I headed there at 4:30pm. ...traffic was F#@*#@# murder...

I get in front of the store at 5:58pm... 2 minutes before closing. As I park in front of the store, I see a clerk heading for the door with the keys... and he is looking straight at me! I get out of the truck and head for the door, waving at the guy (this is like straight out of a movie...). He then proceeds to turn his back to me and walk away!!!

I knock gently on the door and ask him to come closer to explain to him I'm there to pick up an order... he turns around, looks at me all F#@*#@# annoyed, and taps his F#@*#@# watch!!!!  I then notice the cashier is still there. As she sees me looking at her, she F#@*#@# turns away and bolts to the back!!! Unfuckingbelievable...

I wait 5 minutes until the lights go out and the guy comes to the door to get out and sees me there. He looks up, still with the annoyed look, and says sternly "sorry, we"re closed". I look at him with a smile, keeping diplomatic, and say that I'm simply there to pick up an order of capacitors, and couldn't get there earlier. He says: " sorry, come back tomorrow." Needless to say, anybody who knows me knows I live 45 minutes away from the store when there is no traffic... I told him that it's an order totaling over 200$... he just shrugs. ... I F#@*#@# LOST IT...

I said the following: "Hey buddy, do me a favor and charge up those 55000uF 30V caps real good, so I can shove em up your a** and see the sparks fly in that smart a** smirk of yours!"  ...He froze.

" But sir, you ordered those caps... you have to pick them up!"

My response: "#1, I didn't sign anything. #2, I didn't leave a deposit. #3, you neglected to call me. #4, YOU are the one refusing to give them to me. ..Have a nice day!" ... and proceeded to head home.

So the lowdown is Active in Montreal has the lousiest service on the F#@*#@# planet and they hike up their prices...they are at least 25% more expensive than the one in Ottawa. Even DDO Electronics, which is a surplus store partly associated with Active and where the people there are SUPER friendly, even say themselves that the Active staff are rather difficult... which is a diplomatic way of saying they are F#@*#@# assholes.

That was my seventh visit at Active ... and my last. I am truly sorry for such an aggressive posting, but I have clearly had enough. Just my 2 F#@*#@# cents worth...

For your information, I have decided to order my capacitors directly from the manufacturer, Mallory, which are based in Woodstock, Ontario. Their site is http://www.duracap.com . I emailed them and got a friendly response from Cathy Holt and she confirmed to me that I can send an order by fax or email without a problem. They have an online catalog which is easy to use.

A very pissed off consumer, Ian

MK, I was actually going to go there for the first time this weekend to look into buying some Molex plugs. Thanks for the heads up on the service.

I'm not sure there's many places that I can buy certain Molex plugs though.... but I'll look around.

You can buy Molex plugs there, but don't order anything... If you are in and out during open hours, all you are going to have is an attitude. I got my Molex stuff there since DDO electronics only have the ones that are attached together, they are not precut.... but that isn't so bad...

On an EDOT power supply, there are 3 capacitors... a 55000uF 25V, a 100000uF 15V (both roughly the size of a coke can), and a 3.4uF 440V which is cylindrical but oval instead of round when looking on the bottom. ...I'll take pics tonight...

Ya and they are out of $200. Those are not very common caps, and will end up just collecting dust at their store, hehehe

Well if you ever need anything at Active, just ask and I will go get the stuff at the one here in Ottawa. As a matter of fact, I am going there tomorrow to pick up a few things

I went to Active in Ottawa today. Great guys who work there, very friendly and nice to talk to. Bought a lot of stuff ($211 worth).

I spoke to them about the bad service at the Active in Montreal on Ferrier, they were shocked. They said that if that had happened at the store here, the guy would probably have at been disciplined, or at least made to call and give an apology for what he did.

They also said that they would talk to "the big boss" about the service at the Montreal store. The guy at the store in Ottawa apologized for the service you got at the other store and said that even though it is far to come to Ottawa just to go to an electronics store, he said he would be more than happy to help you out with anything you need if you did

I know its not much comfort for what the idiots in Montreal did, but its something.

Now time to starting using the goodies I bought.....

Wouldnt it just have been easier to convert it to a switching power supply? Im not familar with the requirements of an EDOT but it would seem cheaper than 200$ worth of caps.
