I just picked up via an ebay auction one of my two remaining "must haves' for my growing classic videogame consoles: the Vectrex (the other must have: the Neogeo AES, still can't find one at a decent enough price).
Anyway, I should be getting the Vectrex delivered soon. I was considering getting a few games but because the Vectrex games have all been released in the public domain, I was pondering on getting one of those multicarts. There are two I have in mind:
72-1: Includes all released commercial games, all known prototypes, many homebrews, hacked games, etc. That goes for about $100 US shipped (a little pricey but some of the homebrews are supposed to be great). http://vectrex.playntradeonline.com/multicart.html
I don't really want to spent $100US, but I'm considering it.
Any thoughts from Vectrex owners out there?
Rob
edit: the 72-1 can be a lot cheaper if I had my own Vectrex cart shell, about $60US including shipping. Anyone have a dead Vectrex cart to spare?
well i owned more then a few vectrex in my time. loads of games as well. never had the multi cart but i knew new games were made up till 1990's. if i still had one i would go for the $100 cart easliy. then the light pen again and 3d stuff again. best 3d graphics of any machine i have played. i was lucky back in my toronto days to have found three of them at value village. one was $10, one time another was $20 and the grand daddy of the all came with 30 games and all boxes and such for only $50. i was so f-ing happy with that deal. i miss owning one. but gave up my collection awhile ago. my machines are bigger now.
I hope you like the thought of paying 5-10x as much for AES carts as opposed to MVS carts. I mean that literally, with some carts selling for upwards of $350, and the average being $100 or so. Probably better off consolizing an MVS. They're such a rip, considering the ROMs on the carts are IDENTICAL.
Neogeo: yeah, I know, to be clear I'm not interested in getting a huge collection of games for each system, I'm more interested in getting one of each major consoles wiith at least one-two games each, you know from an historical perspective one can see the evolution of the videogame consoles. Consolizing an MVS system to an AES sounds good, but I don't have the know-how to do stuff like that.

Hmm, my research is suggesting something called the "VecFlash" as it allows me to put new games on it, while these multi-carts do not. I'll have to think about it, seems like their are pro's and con's for both.
Cool hit on the Vectrex systems. Whenever I go to valuevillage, there is nothing available but PSone's and maybe a Genesis.
I don't think I'd even let go that deal you're raving about. I supposed you did well on the sale! I sure hope so!!!
i gave one of the vextrex to my brother for his bar. far as i know they still play it on his bartop. others i sold off years ago. it was when i was living in toronto. yep.
Yeah I have a Vectrex myself and I'm seriously considering getting that 72-1 just because it covers pretty much everything in that realm. Homebrew, official releases, prototypes etc how can you go wrong when it costs more than that for a fraction of the actual games.
I usually try to go for any multicards or flashcarts for these older systems just so I can play some of the prototypes, homebrew and insanely rare/expensive games for the respective system.
I've got a Skunkboard for the Jaguar, a PowerPak for the NES, some old but working floppy based copier for the SNES, maybe that for the Vectrex, get the Odyssey2 multicart and just keep going from there
I certainly would love to get an original copy of some of these games but honestly when it comes down to it I just can't justify the $200+ for any game (yet! *grin)
I was a console collector in a previous life (had almost 80 systems).. Vectrex is probably still my favourite out of all the machines I owned, along with the CDX. The Vectrex was so cool and unique.. it's too bad it never took off, or we would have seen a colour model (2 prototypes exist).
When you consider that each Vectrex game averages around $10, the price of the 72-in-1 doesn't seem so bad. Keep in mind though that you don't get the overlays.. if you're a purist. I never used them anyway, myself.
Own Magic, Star Gazer, Batman Forever, STTNG, Mystery Castle (project)
Gone Fairy, Secret Service, Meteor x3, Title Fight, Eight Ball Deluxe, Bone Busters Inc., Seawitch, Starship Troopers, Strange Science, Arena, Hook, Pin*Bot x2, Time Warp, Motordome, Robocop, Black hole, Jurassic Park , Wipe-Out, Pinball Pro: Challenger I, Swords of Fury, Stargate, Party Zone
Machine.slave: Overlays: If one must have them, I believe they are available and can be printed on similar type of product.
Jokker: Thanks, you just reminded me I don't have a Jaguar... Drat. On the 72-1, don't forget you can't add any other homebrew, which is why I'm considering the flash cart solution (though I hear they have their own issue, some games tend to crash?). I didn't even know the made any NES one, though I picked up at a Garage sale one of those 100-in-1 that has about 30 games repeated 3 times under a different name . Some of these are pretty expensive, I'd love to have one for my colecovision, but last time I checked, they were pretty expensive too ($130 US). Check it out here, they even sell an Atari 5200 multicart. http://www.atarimax.com/usbcoleco/documentation/
On the Neogeo front, I just heard there are some 100+ games in one carts? Wow!
DUDE, she reads these boards!!!!! eheh not really. Actually, you can ship it now, put a note on it that says "$10 final sale" will you?
Haha! I never let the cat out of the bag, so even if she did read she wouldn't know item or price.
I'll get it shipped out on Tuesday, don't think the PO is open tomorrow and my wife is out with the car for the rest of today. I'd walk up town with it, if it was a smaller package or I didn't have a 4 year old to drag with me too.
Those 100-in-1 carts sound good, but there are many hacks of KOF games on them. I might get one at some point, and if it's decent enough I'll sell my MV-4F and get a 1 slot.
