I've been lurking on MAACA for a while now. Overall, I'm happy to have this forum available (as opposed to RGP) for (somewhat) local pinball talk. But, I think posters should do some things better. Note these are my _OPINIONS_ and I'd rather not argue about it. Don't PM me. Don't PM Sparky. I'd prefer you read my suggestions, and if you agree with them, make sure you're not part of the problem from now on. 1) Posting in the wrong spot. There is a "Pins only" forum, and yet most of the conversation on the general "MAACA Forum and Chat" is about pins. Huh? 2) Hijacked threads. Everyone knows what these are. Why not start a new thread rather than getting too far off topic, because this leads to.... 3) Unanswered questions. When someone asks if anyone's dealt with SRG Enterprises (for example), responding with "my second cousin once thought about buying a game from him" is not useful. A recommendation based on personal experience is being requested. If you have one, give it. If not, keep quiet. When asked how to enter diagnostics mode on a System 11B, "look in the manual" is not useful. Write something that will help the original poster. Otherwise, we get.... 4) Run-on threads. I think the number of replies in a thread should be limited. There aren't usually 50+ useful points to make on a specific topic. But there often are this many replies, most of which are.... 5) One-line responses. I suppose there's a time and place for everything, and I do appreciate brevity. But I don't want to see everyone and his dog chime in with the cockiest comment he can think of at the time. I suggest waiting ten minutes before reading any thread and replying. And also, how about no more... 6) "PM sent". What does this accomplish? It should be obvious by now that response order is meaningless in trying to snag a deal. Simply send the PM. Or phone. Or use Morse code or smoke signals or whatever. I don't want to know you're trying to communicate. 7) Bad pictures. If I'm going to consider buying a game without seeing it first, I'm interested in things like wear on the playfield. How can I see this from a picture of the whole playfield taken from 4 feet away? Why not take close-ups of the high-wear areas like the return lanes or between the slingshots (unless you have something to hide, which is my immediate assumption). "Wanted to buy", with no qualifications. What does WTB mean on its own? My opinion: nothing at all. If you're selling a game and see my WTB post, do you contact me first? Nope. Wouldn't it make sense to include what might ruin your interest (WTB within driving distance of Montreal or WTB: GnR, willing to pay up to $4600 etc)? Otherwise people respond (with bad pix) to WTB ads, only to find they've wasted their time. Similar statement for games for sale. Please include whether you're willing to ship so I don't waste your time. 9) Real names. Hi, I'm "nastiupset". Does Terrance now own Adam's TSPP, and is Glen meeting Phil or Claude at the next Starburst auction? Who are these people? Please have mercy on those who aren't members of the Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal pinball leagues. 10) Deals gone bad stories that don't identify participants. Aaaargh, what's the point? If you really want to help and not just look for sympathy, ensure others don't make the same mistake as you. Reputation should mean a lot in this hobby. I'm surprised scammers are still around given how easy it should theoretically be to look up someone's past dealings. 11) No proofreading. Just a pet peeve of mine. Is it two much too ask that chew cheque you're grammar; speeling; and punctuation, before posting? That's my two cents. Actually, it feels like a few dollars' worth. Keep flippin'!! Well, there it is. |

How bout this, you don't like the way things are done here, don't come here simple as that, not like your contributing anything other then your "rant" to this forum so why would anyone care what you have to say anyway?
As for peoples real names, try reading a bit more, mines at the bottom, nice to see you hiding behind your handle tho.

Here's a little rant of my own: guys who show up and start yapping and everyone in the room is saying "Who the hell is that guy?" Welcome to MAACA! Glad you're here! Daniel |

So I was thinking if you had a brown cow and a jersey cow, which cow would weigh the most? and could you still ride it into town?

Everyone knows the brown cow would weigh the most ! And you can only ride it into town if you live in Aylmer. |

How about discussing formunda cheese? We discuss a hell of a lot more pinball than just about any other place under the sun north of the 49th on here. That is the main objective. Other things come up in the conversation. That's the nature of forums. We even feel it's quite acceptable to comment on peoples FS threads and you know what, it keeps it in the limelight. It works without a whole heck of a lot of rules. I think we get along fine. Welcome to our disfunctional, functional pinball family. If Sparky or one of the other admins doesn't like where something is stuck for housekeeping, guess what, they move it. |

I think Nasti forgot to include...
12) Guys who post threads about how other people should post threads. These are so presumptuous, and what do they really accomplish ?
I think the unwritten rule is you have to post 100 times before you can rag about how the forum operates. |
