That was awesome, except for his dissing of dear linux. His wood working skills are amazing, but an LCD monitor for MAME?!

There's nothing wrong with an LCD monitor, refresh rates are much improved now and they take a lot less room in the cab. Of course, some may still find them insufficient but I find it looks great.
lol ... I just saw it. I wouldn't go for that... looks too tight in there. And as for the LCD monitor, jeez, you CRT-purists never give up! LCD monitor is light, easy to fit anywhere, and permits you to do more than just play games. I find that versatility is key.
Besides, I will be using an LCD in my next one... that 33" CRT monitor in my showcase cab is simply just too frickin heavy!!!! It weighs in excess of 250lbs!!!! An LCD of the same size is 30 lbs. Case closed.
I agree and disagree with the 'LCD is good' comments.
I like LCD, my TV is a 42" 1080p LCD, it looks fine. I use it to play MAME (on my modded xbox). I agree that they look great!
But if you're gonna go through the trouble to make an arcade cabinet, why not go for the CRT and get the more authentic look? If you're playing on an arcade cabinet, isn't the purpose to create a bit of nostalgia? Why not just play while sitting on your leather couch then? An LCD monitor would just kill the nostalgia for me, the games wouldn't feel authentic.

That's a great point with the authentic look but sometimes you have to balance that. For example, because of the size of my cab (looks like an old video poker machine) the only CRT that could fit in there with a horizontal perspective is a 14" monitor. MAYBE if I'd gutted the case, I might have fit a 15", but not sure about that. With the LCD solution, I was able to put in a 19" monitor, which equates to a 20" CRT, a nice upgrade from the 14" I had before.
In the case of the Tardis, I don't think size was the issue as much as "style". Incidentally, I don't consider it that particular a mame cab. It's original, but if I was the owner it wouldn't make me want to play it, rather I'd want to talk about it. Nice original design and a great conversational piece.
With skills like that and don't mind what type of monitor he puts in it You somebody who put B&W monitor in his mame to play original pong game
