I have a SPP and the garage switch stopped working in game mode but for some reason it works in test mode. Is this some sort of software bug? Has anyone seen this happen before?

Thanks,
Geoff

I guess one question to ask is what are you expecting to happen during the game mode that isn't happening?

The garage door never opens because the switch is not registering, no sound and no points but in test mode it registers fine.

Are you using your finger or a pinball to test the switch in switch test mode ?

... just wondering if this could be a mechanical adjustment or bad microswitch,
where it is properly activated and detected with fingers, but maybe not with a
quick hit from the pinball...

Good luck !

Cheers,
- Sylvain.

It does not work at all in game mode with the ball or by hand. I have been repairing pinball machines for over 20 years and this is the first time that I see this kind of problem.

Did a search on rgp. Someone had a similar problem in 2005:

http://groups.google.com/group.....est#f9e6045b5aa63be6

They didn't post a solution, though. You might need to call Stern.

I'll be the first to admit total ignorance on this topic,
but as far as I can tell, the only difference between game mode and test mode,
would be the amount voltage/current drawn.
(ie. Game mode would draw more current because of all the other things going on,
whereas test mode would only test one switch at a time )

Is it possible the garage switch is not registering in game mode
because of insufficient power/current ?

I realize I'm stretching the limits of my ignorance here,
but nothing would really explain why it works in test mode and not game mode...

I'll shut up now...

Steph

Is the garage door actually opening during gameplay, or is it remaining closed when hit by the ball?

Could it be that there is nothing wrong with the swwtich and more that the mechanisim that is supposed to open the door is broken?

I mean if the swtich to hit the door is being triggered but whatever is supposed to open the door isn't that could be a reason.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking.

The only thing that I didn't check was the voltage.

Funny thing here is the actual problem is the switch (See question) Not some mechanical stuff after that but I am new to these news groups and I guess I wasn't specific enough.

The Switch Is the problem!!!!!!!! Not any mechanical parts after it. The garage door won't open because the SWITCH DOES NOT REGISTER!!!

I am going to ask Stern because they might have a reason for this problem and I am looking for answers not questions.

Thanks for your time.

Geoff

Well I would think that the answer to your question is more obvious than mine. NO the garage door does NOT open because the switch does NOT work!

I would seem to me that when you have a group of people legitimately trying to assist you, you may be a little less of an assh01e.

The questions are actually quite relevant for troubleshooting purposes.

If you're just looking for someone with a crystal ball to magically answer your question, you're in the wrong spot jack.

My thoughts exactly, just because you say it's the switch, doesn't necesarly mean it's the switch, the machine isn't in front of us, were just trying to help.  It makes no sense to me that a switch would work in test but not in play so my thought is it could be something else that mabye the software is compensating for, that makes more sense to me then a switch that works but doesn't.  But hey I guess you know better then me, so go blow it out your a$$ and figure it out on your own.

Problem solved. It was software after all, just like I thought. I did a factory reset and it works 100% now. That was my original question and sure enough that was the answer. Thanks!
