(aargh I hijacked my own thread! So better to start a new one I always say - hey there I am on Top Members, and above newf112 of all people....)

...I digress.

I decided to let the CPU GI connector burn fix go until tomorrow (having fixed all the other burnt out connectors with new trifurcon pins/ molex connectors and shimming up the drop down targets antivibration pads), and thought I better take Black Knight 2000 for a "Spin", so to speak, before the next Millenium.

"Give me your money!" First off the attract mode caught me off guard once (I'm working on it late) and I actually yelped. (Such a wimp.)

But yes it is the Holy Grail that I was seeking...(but alas no bunny with sharp pointy teeth, and no BK2K T-shirt either)!  What a blast; fast, challenging (what a center drainer), musical, and not too much to it, my perfect '80's pin, I am in love all over again.... it's a keeper. My next quest will be for another WPC pin a little higher up the food chain though.

I discovered a couple more things that need attending to, the first display is going, the second has been replaced. There's a few switch errors, I'll attend to those tomorrow and spare you all the chronical - but it surprises me. The backglass has one large spot flaked (I thought this was a new BG)?  And the playfield has some dents and peeling mylar that changes the ball's path.

Anyway, if any of you previous owners know, I'm curious to know the origin/history of the machine, I make notes with all my machines about what I know to keep on file and to give to any new owner.

Hmmm... I wonder if there will be a prequel, I rather liked Black Knight too.

Hey Wayne,

The "flaking" on the BG isn't flaking at all.  It was a new glass, but at some point during transportation the light board latch must have opened up and that latch is the cause of the damage.  (hence the screw that I insalled to prevent this from happening when I picked it up from Mark)  The damage was done prior to Mark receiving it, so who knows.....

Uh, I see.  Luckily the scratch isn't in the mirror.  With any luck I can get some transparent graphic tape and do a quick fix.

Actually, the wear spot if I remember correctly is 99% black so you could touch it up with an airbrush, and then spray on some white to match the rest of the BG back.

Thank you for the advice.  It scratched about 20% blue stripe as well, but it looks like a process blue so maybe I can find some vinyl tape to put there, I'll figure it out.

Anyway, if any of you previous owners know, I'm curious to know the origin/history of the machine, I make notes with all my machines about what I know to keep on file and to give to any new owner..

That game came from Allentown in 2006, a friend of mine in Montreal bringed it back.

I then bought it from him last summer in a 3 games deal (allong with a Taxi and a Cyclone that later went to JVegas...).

I changed the upper flipper assembly with a spare used one that i had because it broke in a middle of a game. Upper pf Gi was completely dead so i changed a few connectors myself inside the cab (i think they are red, i didnt changed the whole connector if i remember well but only the damaged part). I installed a tiny round mylar piece on top of the magna save, there was a VERY small wear spot starting in the middle.

Other than that, i didnt do much, it was working pretty well. I dont remember that wear spot on the bg to be such a big deal, it is almost invisible to anyone not knowing, it was a solid black area if i remember well and was not flaking ?? The bg was like that when i got it and was NOT new unless someone else bought one after but i cant really see why. Upper pf inserts were raising in the W-A-R and also some green inserts had white mylar glue that was visible. Some craking in the thunder inserts too.

Traded it to Mark for the JP Menace restored for him a few months later. I dont miss it, music was cool and game was fast, but it gets boring really fast in my opinion.

Thats it for my little part of the story   I'm happy that you like it, i can understand why, i just needed a better challenge. The game looked pretty nice all around, unfaded cab and bg looked great, to me at least...

Thank you for that info Sylvain,  The complete Canadian side of the story.

The game is great, I, my family and friends like simple fast games with challenging drains.  I suppose at some point I will have to get a game with a more comlex rule set (one I used to liek a lot was STTNG).  WE had a bit of a day off and between me, my kid, my SO, and our neighbour and his kid, and between us, the game got played most of the day!

I'm a perfectionist, perhaps to a fault I dump a lot more into a game than I ever might get out, but this one is a keeper and I'd like to get the playfield de-mylared, inserts remounted, touched up and coated at some point if anyone has any suggestions.

I have completely replaced almost all of the original GI connectors (well the burnt ones anyway - I saw your little red connector) with trifurcon connectors, resoldered the header pins (many on the GI connector boards were cracked).

I haven't yet gotten to redoing the connectors/headers for the GI on the adapter board (I think it was), they were completely burnt out and directly soldered.

The test tells me some ramp switches are out, we'll see what that is, they may be false positives because of the balls in the launch ramp, I wasn't paying real attention.

I'm likely going to replace the speakers, if a test makes a difference although I am told there is no point using a subwoofer with this one, there is no base in the audio (my Laser WArs sounds pumped on a Sub with a crossover).

I'm going to replace the 4 batteries with 3 and a diode (well I was glad to see the battery connector off the MPU board). I'll lower the display voltage to 91volts and replace the older display glass (the display board needs a fix somewhere too, it's leaking an extra segment.  I'll change out all the #44's for #47s in the back box too, and replace the burnt out ones onthe playfield (of course).

I have a replacement plastic for the slings coming and of course some plastic protector washers will be used.  I already have cabinet protectors on the legs.

The cabinet needs some minor touch up, a couple deep dings there, and a drilled hole near the lock (an extra lock bar perhaps? but usually there are two holes).

I'll probably sand out the inside too, and that unfortunate bit on the otherwise perfect backglass can be touched up, I will just have to match the blue stripe, that's the hardest part.  It's not noticeable to anyone else except me, but the wear spot is at least teh size of a nickel.

I'll be rebuilding the flippers and likely replace all the coil inserts (which I do as a matter of course).

Ahh the fun of babying our toys.

P.S. I am very thankful for the mylar patch on the magna save area, you are right it had little wear, but then the magna save is harder to use in BK2K than it was in BK.  I always put mylar patches under ball drops and that sort of thing.
