Awesome, and kudos to the poster, he may have started the ultimate tradition, but alas, I can not take credit. I would hope the poster is smart enough not to take credit for it.

The real Stephen Anderson (aka Mark Uttley) is going nuts on Kijiji right now. Maybe business is so bad we have him on the run now. (Why can't he move to vancouver or california or some place like that that would appreciate his talents.)
I suspect so many people are now exposing him for copyright infringements (the key to reporting his ads), that he is trying to combat it simply by flooding kijiji (he has nothing else to do ) - as soon as the ads come down, they get reposted. I would suggest, if you have some spare time, scour the ads, report Mr. Anderson's ads for copyright infringement (using pictures that he doesn't own) and also sending kijiji the link to the Pinball Blacklist (as they are familiar with this now): http://www.xmission.com/~daina/blacklist.html
I am noticing some new email addresses as well which will get added to the Blacklist.
At least we could "warn" them to be careful dealing with Anderson and get reports back on the results.
One tactic that I think might catch on is to place a bid on Anderson's stuff and then retract the Bid claiming a scam (i.e. unwillingness to communicate, won't show items) to help warn subsequent bidders.

after feedback is left you can see and contact buyer......
It looks like he pushed someone a bit too far, maybe one of his past victims? I wonder if that fellow from Calgary who was getting scammed on the Star Wars pin posted that, I wouldn't blame him a bit of he did.
Whatever happened with the Star Wars scam anyway? Did he ever ship the machine?

Be carefull, I know I would'nt like to be associated with this guy if I posted an add on Kijiji. Let's not get paranoid here. I would say that most adds don't come from Anderson, by the way, maybe that explains the new email addresses.

Yeah... I would say the same... but the thing is that I have a list of 61 different emails used by Anderson... he basically registers an email with a provider like Gmail or Hotmail and uses it until it is compromised, and then he ditches it and registers another email address and starts all over again. It has been his modus operandi for years.

You never know, not quite his MO though. I would say get in contact and you can tell by his reactions whether he's legit or a scammer. But the easiest way to tell is if the image used is stolen from the INternet. Usually its easy to find the image used with a Google Images search o or the new "CoolIris"
I enquired about the Star Wars Pin.... The guy "JAMES" said that it was available to see at his location in Hamilton.... He said he had other titles, but they were in storage at various sites around the city... primarily in garages of residential units he rents out."
Also, a just so everyone's in the know.... a very nice old school operator in the Brantford Area was recently ripped off for $35,000 worth of equipment.....
Basically as I understand it, it went like this....
Operator selling a pin at his warehouse/shop, guy and his buddy come to pick it up... gets there, looks around, says he's not interested and leaves... a couple days later a break in occures(during the night) at the shop, $35,000 wortyh of machines taken, backglasses/monitors all smashed for no reason, machines, jukeboxes, ect all thrown around (so they could access the stuff they wanted). All higher end stuff taken, lower end stuff destroyed! Among the items was a Getawwy and World Cup soccer.....
I'm not sure if the operator like to air his dirty laundry, but I though we should all be aware. this occured in Nov/Dec 2008. police are still involved.
If you see anything odd, please call the Brantford police.
If it is possible, get a list of what was taken, with as many details as possible, like serial numbers (I know... fat chance...). If a fishy machine pops up, then the police can be notified.

It is ony a greesy hobby because of a few individuals. The majority enjoy the hobby in an honest, productive way..... However from the start of the industry, it has attracted those sort evil individuals... so I guess we all knew what we were getting into when we started....
As for the list... I doubt it. he's still pissed over the whole thing, and there is an active police investigation going on (as I understand it).

The greasiness of the hobby is that it has always been about gambling, bars, and unaccountable cash. You don't need much skill to fix a pinball (the wrong way), and even less skill and no pride to swindle people. People like Anderson do what they do because they've been doing it all their adult life and know nothing else. Add some serious schizophrenia to that and you've got a nightmare on Hatt Street. You get these types in all sorts of "collectables" circles.

So if he was locked up last September, who ripped off the Star Wars buyer at Christmas?
... and if it is truly a collector, why not answer on MAACA and RGP? I do agree, although funny, the kijiji ads are harsh (taking in account that there still is a possibility that it may not be Anderson) but I am sure that if it were truly a collector, and if he posted here or elsewhere like on RGP, I am sure some would apologize.
I think that this person seems to minimize the situation... many have been ripped off.

Me thinks the protestor doth protest too much.
The warnings about Anderson should put buyers and sellers on their toes (a good thing). And legitimate buyers and sellers list their names and phone numbers. Unless this particular collector/seller is trying to avoid paying tax on sales and collecting sales taxes.
Did anyone on MAACA admit to posting these ads on KIJIJI? He obviously reads MAACA, so why not post here to clear the air if this guy is legitimate. Why not join the group, if he buys, sells and restores pins?
Something sounds very fishy, especially since he is the one that seems to know all about Mr. Anderson and his supposed his incarceration.
As I said before, the ads on KiJIJI seem to be authored by someone that Mr. Anderson has really pissed off, not sure what it has to do with MAACA.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

I was'nt on MAACA for the past few years and I collected pins....What's so fishy about that??
I can understand someone who collects pins and loves the hobby but does'nt want to join a forum. Why don't you???
Anybody who has a computer and internet can read MAACA forums, you don't need to be a member.
My point was:
(1) If you're a knowledgeable pinball collector, and you already know about MAACA, why wouldn't you be a part of one of the online groups? It's a great networking resource for buy & sell and repairs. It's one thing if you don't know about MAACA...but the "indignant KIJIJI poster" obviously does, as he mentions it specifically by name.
(2) The "indignant KIJIJI poster" has been following the thread enough to learn that we have been discussing the "fake Anderson/KIJIJI posts".
(3) Anyone following this thread would see that no one has stepped forward proclaiming "I left those messages on KIJIJI." So...why is the "indignant KIJIJI poster" blaming people from MAACA?
ie: "To all the persons or person at MAACA slandering all us pinball gurus in ontario, please stop."
Why is the "indignant KIJIJI poster" *so* convinced that it's someone from here?
(4) If you were the real Anderson, wouldn't you pretend to be a knowledgeable pinball collector who is fed up seeing all the activity on KIJIJI, just to try to convince the "fake Anderson KIJIJI poster" to stop? Afterall, the person putting all the fake Anderson ads up is further exposing the real Anderson's activities.
(5) Logic dictates that the "indignant KIJIJI poster" is likely the real Anderson.
It's a well documented, widely published case of repeated frauds. Why is anyone trying to jump to the real Anderson's defence?

What no one understands is why the guy replied on Kijiji. Just as the original Anderson ad wasn't taken seriously at all, neither will this reply. Anyone can post that they are not this guy or not that guy and that guy is in jail... Heck, I could even post that I am Stephen Anderson, or Shaggy, or Claude Veilleux, and I can complain on Kijiji on just about anything. The thing is that no one will take it seriously.
Some guy decided to write a few jokes at Anderson's expense, and some guy decided to post stuff for sale and follows Anderson's way of posting on Kijiji and Ebay to the letter, but doesn't reply when people ask questions and ask for more (decent) pics. No pics, no proof, no nothing.
He was asked to reply on Ebay... he didn't, other than sarcastic answers.
He was asked to reply on RGP... he didn't.
He obviously read comments on MAACA about the ads... he didn't reply. He could have even sent me an email with a complaint... nothing.
Someone posts on Kijiji about some MAACA members flaming him... he replies in a Classified ad... just like the spoof on Anderson. Taken seriously??? I don't think so.
I have had some personal experience in such situations when I sell something. If someone asks a question, I answer. If someone wants more pics, I take more pics.
Here's a comparison... when Cooke sold his EBD recently on Ebay, was there ANY flack about it? NO. For all I know, he could be Anderson... I never met Corey. BUT... he inspired confidence with full disclosure. He showed that he had nothing to hide.
Overall, yes... it is a sad fact that people are skeptic in pinball... but that is just a result of MANY people having been screwed over. Due to that, honest sellers must be more open. By doing that, oddly enough, items sell for MORE... imagine that.
For all we know, the poster of that ad could even just be a disgruntled ex-member. I know of 3 that have tried to log in in the last few days.
If the fake KIJIJI ads bring more recognition to how a known scammer operates, I say more power to them...the more people that know about him, the better off everyone is.
Simply, my thought was whoever the "indignant KIJIJI poster" is either a fool, or is trying to cover something up.

Anderson is getting what he deserves, but man would I hate to get one of my adds taken for an Anderson add like "maybe" this one. That's why I am inviting members to precaution.
The way things are going.... I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled that whole category on Kijiji.
I don't think that would be such a bad thing, it would make it easier for me to make legitimate sales and purchases.
I don't completely understand why ALJO is going on the defensive, except to play devil's advocate, but yes descretion is the better part of valour. Whether that "fixer upper" ad is Anderson or not IS debatable, but it's close enough in MO to be careful about it. I don't think anyone here has disagreed with ALJO on that one, no fears man, we get it.
It is said that Anderson exhibits some schizophrenic tendencies and pathological lieing, so it goes to reason that he might truly believe in his innocence and use twisted misguided ways to express it. He's done it here and on the radio equipment collectors forums before. If you're notorious, you get off on seeing your name in lights (good or bad), so it makes sense that he, or someone just as cracked up wants to slander MAACA folk. The ultimate goal may be to draw attention to the ads that expose Anderson so that the whole kafuffle gets taken down, and then he can get on with posting his "want ads" again.

I wouldn't confuse "schizophrenia" with good scamming tactics.. the guy who scammed me was spouting the same crazy accusations and lies, and I can guarantee he's not a schizophrenic. These tactics seem more a way to throw the trail off than a desperate cry for attention. Notice how routinely if one angle doesn't work (ie. lying about their intentions), then they switch to another one almost instantly (ie. threatening to kill you and your family if you pursue it further).
These scammers deserve to be bludgeoned to near death, IMO*. They truly are the lowest of the low, right next to pedophiles and rapists. Unfortunately, the law doesn't seem to care too much. If there's one thing I've learned from this whole sickening experience, it's how easy it is for someone to make a living preying on good, honest, hard working people. If I were as black-hearted as these scum, I might be inclined to put this knowledge to good use! Thankfully, I'm not..

... if it wasn't for me supporting my family and being an example for 2 young kids (hey guys!!! Love ya!!! ) I would gladly trade my "services" for a pin... and in Anderson's case, probably a half-dead old Stern.

OK, my layman's take - Schizophrenia and Pseudologia fantastica (pathalogical lieing) are divergent, that is Schizophrenics are delusional, they believe their own lies or perceive the lies as reality, and Pathological liars suffer, among other things, from social disorders and extremely low self esteem and attempt to ameliorate dealing with the sometimes aweful or painful truth by lieing, but generally, somewhere deep down they will or can acknowledge the lie. Once someone gets practiced at lieing as a "successful" way to cope socially, it is hard to break the pattern.
So the question is, does a person like Anderson believe himself to be right and everyone else wrong (Schizophrenia) or does he feel so bad about himself that he must try to make everyone believe that he is something he is not(pathological lieing)?
My brother suffered from pathological lieing (and we suffered along with him) so I have at least had first hand experience with that.

I am not a doctor or psychologist, I did however major in Psychology at UWO here in London, no offense to anyone who has posted "this or that" concerning our friend. You are all centering around mental illness's which are very serious conditions in thier own right and should never be taken lightly or joked about.
Mr. Anderson/Mr Utterly does not suffer from any of these.
Mr Anderson is plain and simply a crook- a confidence man- and a "salesman" of the lowest form (no offense to salesman )
I am reading this thread thinking don't defend him, don't make excuses for him, don't try and analyze him. He is a GOOF! thats it thats all, no stories no excuses he is a GOOF!
And if you are reading this which I am sure you are- and I bet you have been to jail at one point in your life you I am sure know exactly what I am saying when I call you a GOOF.
I don't completely understand why ALJO is going on the defensive
I'm not, I just thought that throwing many ad links on a thread because "supposedly" some members think they are from Anderson was a little paranoid and that's why I wanted to intervene on this thread, otherwise, exept for the fact that this thread warns everyone about potential scammers, I found it very un-interresting. No offense to the member who started it.
Ok fine, i have joined, not because i need to, but to clear things up. I have been collecting and repairing pinballs as a hobby for the last 3 years, i live in oshawa ontario canada. We know all about this anserson caracter and we are frankly sick of how someone is assuming all the ads being posted on kijiji and beyond are anderson. There is more than one pin collector in this area, im just outside the gta and i know of 10+ in this area who i know 110% are not anderson because i have met anderson before and will never forget it. It was a fluke actually i was with a friend, also a pinball collector and he asked me to accompany him to help with the loading and i went along and it was anderson for sure. I learned this later after seeing an address posted on mr pinball (daina petits site) and the physical discription was pretty accurate, but as per the 300 pounds, seems anderson might have lost a few pounds, lol. I Would have put him (9 months ago roughly) around 210-220 but i don't work at the carnivals guessing peoples weight, lol. He was quite polite and the deal was good according to my recolection (in no way am i defending him). I Do have friends in the police force and i have knowledge that anderson was involved in some fire in aberfoyle and at the time (sept , oct) he was in fact incarcerated at that time. I Assumed he still was in jail. Regardless its not fair how mine and others have had to suffer and defend ourselves over this bird. He may be running ads out here , he maybe not. Its hard to say actually, but as it says in the mr pinball site he probably won't scam you if you are picking up from him, which my friend did and was not scammed. Its sad the police have not put him away for longer and he is still at large, i don't blame people for exposing him as long as they are sure 100% its him. The thing is that the person running these ads about anderson doesn't do any investigating first and just copies and pastes our ads and changes them how he sees fit, furthermore it is getting innocent peoples email addresess posted on the mr pinball fraud (blacklist) forum (not cool) we are getting blacklisted before we have a chance to defend ourselves or even comment about it. The reason i thought it was someone from this site is because when i googled anderson this thread came up and it was recent. I want to Apologies to all maaca users and forum masters that i was apparently wrong. I Just wanted someone to know that this behavior is not fair and better tactics are called for in tracking down andersons ads.

The only question I have after all of this is.... who are you really?
This is the second post of this type I've seen (on kijiji and now here) yet we have no idea who you (or "we" in reference to you and your collector friends) really are?
If you somehow are being lumped into the Anderson camp, maybe it's time to speak up and let everyone know who you and your friends are, so that people can distinguish you from Anderson. (when we see posts on Kijiji and the like) Maybe even change your postings on Kijiji so that they don't resemble Anderson posts?
If you don't want to get lumped into the Anderson camp, don't post like Anderson does. Simple.
No offense taken... no apologies needed. But keep in mind that Anderson has scammed A LOT of people over the years, and since there has been MAACA around, and the community is now more close-knit, it does happen on occasion that people tend to be a bit overcautious here. BUT... if you think that is bad, ask around in the US community... due to guys like Anderson and Jebsen, many Americans REFUSE to deal with anyone from Canada, and that is far worse than the occasionnal finger-pointing.
IDing yourself is always the best bet in a transaction. Like I said... full disclosure.

Totally understand where you are coming from sparky and i respect all the things you had to say in regard to this matter. In relation to the other posts (after mine) i think i have said enough and if anyone wants to go anderson bashing or continue bashing anderson on here or kijiji, all i have to say indirectly is there are addresses posted on mr pinball and contact numbers, ect ect ect. Start there im sure if one put his mind to it, it wouldn't be to hard to track the person or persons down. Talking about it isn't going to resolve anything except put peopes guard up, if thats the intention well its been executed quite well. If the intention was or is to stop anderson from doing this type of scamming then i think its going to take more than just talk to resolve the issues people have on here and others he has scammed in the past. To make sure he doesn't scam anyone in the future well i don't have the answer to that question but i know bashing people who are not involved with his criminal activitys is not the answer. I Am not going to remain a member here so i don't find it nessesary to have to provide i.d who i or my friends in the hobby are. I Just simply joined to state my point and move on. I have done nothing but read and hear about this anderson guy and frankly there is nothing as far as im concerned that hasn't been said already. However there seems to be more than one anderson out there, or at least more scammers ripping people off who are involved in this field. I Buy games from people in person, i would never buy anything i cannot see or touch in person or in regards to ebay i would want to see the machine beforehand or i wouldn't bid. I Understand people get carried away and want something and take a chance, im sure i speak for more than myself here, i have paid for items that just never arrive. Once bitten twice shy !!!
I still fail to see why you're so worked up about the whole Anderson thing. We're all aware of him. None of us can really do anything about posts that show up elsewhere.
I suspect we're going to continue to hear about him as long as he's in the scamming business.

Instead of just talking and typing, try thinking, i would imagine if your email address ended up on the blacklist for no reason, you might be a little pissed off too, don't ya think ? Im not worked up, i just don't like being accused of being or affiliated with a known criminal scam artist in this hobby.
Mark David Uttley aged 35 years of Dundas has been charged with Arson to Property, Break and Enter as well as Breach of Probation. Uttley is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on May 12th, 2008 for a Bail Hearing.
So.... lets get this straight pinman, you are upset because people think the ads YOU are posting are actually those of known scammer Anderson. Just to be clear the ads YOU are admitting to posting are all of those large type/bold black ads that have been plastered all over kijiji for the last several months. The same ads that someone recently lampooned that has gotten you so riled up.
Here are the facts about YOUR ads: 1. They are almost always posted across multiple cities - JUST LIKE ANDERSON DOES. 2. They are repeasted ad nauseum - JUST LIKE ANDERSON DOES. 3. as websherpa said, in some ads you claim to be in Oshawa, in others Hamilton, in others Burlington, etc etc - JUST LIKE ANDERSON DOES. 4. They are always posted entirely in bold black print - JUST LIKE ANDERSON DOES. 5. You use annonymous emails like yahoo - JUST LIKE ANDERSON DOES. 6. You use underscores in your email addresses (pinball_collectors@yahoo.ca) - JUST LIKE ANDERSON DOES.
Worst of all, by claiming ownership of these ads - you have just admitted you are a thief - many of your ads contain stolen images from the net, taken from sites like pinrescue.com amongst others. OH YEAH....JUST LIKE ANDERSON.
Instead of trying to be a total dickweed, try shutting your mouth and treating other people with respect for a change. Just so we're clear, I'm not here to be a part of your assclown show, and I'm not going to put up with any BS from you.
My point was that no one here caused your e-mail address to be blacklisted. You keep acting like we're the cause of your problems.
Instead of just talking and typing, try thinking, i would imagine if your email address ended up on the blacklist for no reason, you might be a little pissed off too, don't ya think ? Im not worked up, i just don't like being accused of being or affiliated with a known criminal scam artist in this hobby.
