Lock is on its way from PBR ....Leg bolts, I improvised. The backing plates were rusted too bad to use. So On the cabinet inside I used 3/8 -16 tee nuts. Instead of buying regular 3/8 bolts , i was gonna go with stainless bolts , I had the idea to use 3/8 threaded rod, and Stainless steel acorn nuts , I think it gave it a cool look to the legs.
$50 back glass,
The origional was real bad, I debated to repair the old one , which I still may do, But I got one from a guy I was in contact with thru someone on MAACA and bough a BG for $150, and its perfect.

That is nice resto work Briguy. That original cab was looking a bit rough, the new one looks so much better which is fairly obvious I know. Good to know that there is a cabinet maker in the neighborhood.

A bit rough? well put it to you this way, I took the pf out and the sides fell off the cabinet. As for a cabinetmaker in the hood...i am hoping to teach some stuff at Geralds...

You know, there is probably a good opportunity in making cabs for people. I know the guy making cabs right now that was in Allentown this year had a few examples, but man was it ever pricey.

From what I recall of that show (it was a very late night the day prior), the cabs at the show were all WPC and came in different "trim" levels.  One was just bare wood with ground braid, leg plates and speaker grill installed and it was over $1000 US.  Then you could get one with all the above, painted with side rails and head brackets for a few hundred more, and then there were fully done cabs with artwork applied and all hardware installed nearing the 2K mark.

Now don't hold me to these prices as I was VERY hungover, so that day is all a little blurry...

GOOD TIMES!

Ya I saw the website that he's advertising, its ok if you have the coin to spend but for guys like me I'd rather a bit less expensive. I canmake the equivalent of his bare bones cabinet which he charges $750 for bare wood head and cab for about half that. AND NO MDF!!! Plywood and solids only stay away from MDF, baaaad stuff and toxic when bare.

The chrome paint worked nicely, I had to do it twice though,I ended up sanding down all the rust and made sure the origional chrome was "scuffed" enough for the primer to adhere. After a few coats of chrome , i put a top coat of clear on it as the chrome paint I was afraid it would scuff and mark too easily.  Otherwise I'd do it again given the choice.

Hey Briguy,

I am not a carpenter and would like to know what "MDF" is? And toxic to boot? Scary stuff whatever it is.

MDF is short for Medium Density fibreboard. Its along the same lines as particle board but 100x finer particles. The glue used to hold it all together is a formaldahyde type glue. When you cut that sh*t the dustis extremely fine and can really bugger up your lungs...even with your standard dust mask..it bad. When I used to work with it on a regular basis I developed some problems,  which have now pretty much gone away. When the stuff gets wet....almost irreparable. The upside is it can be sprayed with excellent results, remeber those 80s-90's shiny black laquered furniture.....MDF was its base....
It does have its usefullness but personally I'd rather spend a few extra  dollars and have a quality material...IMHO
