I believe pumps here in Canada (at least in Ontario) are temperature corrected. Most pumps in the USA are not, so that gassing up with colder applies there.

Typical gas containers will hold more than advertised.  If you look close, there is usually a measurement line or fill line somewhere on the side that shows when it's "Full"  (2 gallons, 5 Gallons etc.,), but normally you can add quite a bit more.  Unless you are mixing fuel for 2-stroke engines or racing or whatever, chances are this isn't something you'd notice or even care about.
