So mark contacts me a while back asking me if I can refurbish a CF. Sure... But this one is pretty nice... but he wants it NIIIIIIIIICE.

The playfield has minor insert wear and the cab is a bit scratched and yellowed, with some very small wood chips.

I decided to give a blitz tonight, and strip 3 cabs at the same time... EK, Centigrade 37 and CF, since they all have the same basecoat, white.

I removed all hardware on the cab and striped it down. I have stencils for it. The paint came off easily. Tomorrow, I putty and sand.

Update: I sanded the cabinet and backbox clean and Bondoed some spots (not many...). I also reglued a couple of rough corners.

Hey Mark... suggestion for you... get cabinet protectors where the legs bolt on... there are no more gouges in the cab where the legs go on, and I would hate to see it get chipped again!

Where'd you get the stencil for the captain? I was thinking about doing a small project and making the cabinet perfect on ours. That is, if I still have a job.

Search for Pinball Pal in Google. They have great stencils.

Did some searching on Ebay, found a seller selling a variety of stencils. Search for Captain fantastic Stencil, or seller classicarcades. A little cheaper than the site you provided, not sure in any differences with respect to quality.

OH yes... Jeff's (Classic Arcade) stencils are merely stencil paper, thus one-use-only and rather easy to tear. But they do make good results. I use the ones from Pinball Pal whenever possible... for now. I soon plan on having my own stencils done on a rigid surface. More cost-effective for me.

OK... cab is done. I just want to point out first that this was officially the most hellish stencil job I ever did. It was near impossible to align the colors perfectly. I have 1 line I want to redo in front of the cab (5 minute job) but I am tired and calling it a night.

Here are some pics and a list of what was done:

- cab completely stripped
- wood repaired in a few corners
- primed
- 3 white basecoats
- 2 coats of red (minor overspray makes it look more original... stencil supplier told me they were designed with the original look in mind... not a perfect one, and I agree... looks better)
- 2 coats of blue (same as red)
- gold splatter all over the cab (everyone forgets to do this...)
- primed and painted the inside of the backbox as well (looks cleaner)
- primed and painted and gold-splattered the inside of the cab where it is visible above the playfield sides (would look like crap otherwise)
- buffed and clearcoated the lockdown bar support
- all other visible metal except the coindoor and siderails is buffed

I didn't reinstall permanently the siderails as I find them to be rough... if Mark can find a better set, I would go for them.

The CF playfield gets touched up tonight if all goes well. I want to finish Monkeybug's SBM playfield first (almost there Chris... looking good).

Completed last night... I will take the final pics tomorrow upon delivery, but here are a couple... I couldn't use my flash due to glare, but as you can see, no more insert wear, and it is shiny as hell.
