In all fairness, is there anyway to block useless classifieds too?

I'm sorry but I have seen some of the most useless posts on here too. No pics, no firm price or conditions that are pretty well non-existant or penciled in wet Jello.

Sometimes the posts have been to get these guys to firm up and commit to something or at least come to the realization they don't know WTF they want.

I have posted on here with no problems, but my ads have been thorough and the terms thought out.

This comes up every month, and has been for the last 4 years. Everybody has a different suggestion that often contradicts another's. So this being said, I gave up a long time ago trying to fix this.

"self discipline" I agree, but in the case of classifieds, it's rare that you get interactive public forums, and when you do there's always trouble.  People can still take a seller discussion off topic in a new thread.

The more I think about it, the more I think it would be cool if the classifieds were just that, for sale and want ads posted with no comments, only additions and/or changes by the seller.

In the short time I've been a member here, we haven't got to the spot I've seen in other similar collectors forums where one has to decide about regulating commercial posting, when it becomes competitive and nasty.

What fun would that be?  We wouldn't get to read all the "school-yard drama"!

As a mod on other forums, I don't really believe in post censorship.  If people have something to say, they have a right to say it.. and if anything, what people post can sometimes be a very enlightening look at one's character.  I for one have a mental list of a few people on here and other forums who will never see my business.    I think if the classified section was limited, I wouldn't see some of the actions I've seen in the past and therefore could be walking unknowingly into a deal that could turn sour very easily.  That's definitely something I'd like to avoid.. but that's just my opinion on it.  As a consumer, I prefer to deal with less hassle.

I agree with this too. we can see what kind of guys some are and take a better decision as to who you want to deal with or not. before and ,often enough, after the sale we have comments.

This I agree with too, you can't treat muture adults like kids, and if they act like kids, then this joins my first post above.

It looks to me like the majority, at least of regulars, want to see the open posting and commenting on classifieds continue, with many hoping that the quality of follow-up comments improves.

I personally would have advocated for read only classifieds, not particularly for restricting the OT comments, but more for streamlining the listings so that they can be consulted at a glance, acted upon (or not) and then forgotten, instead of taking up as much real estate.  Possibly this is a bit selfsih though, as I am simply trying to simplify and limit my own time and attention paid to them.

Hold on with the praise... I am seriously considering policing the Classifieds and deleting manually any post which is irrelevant to the sale itself. Maybe this would push people to post comments on sales in the forums, and not the Classifieds.

Guys.... cheap shots and exposing your dirty laundry in the open not only pisses off the person you are attacking, but it kinda labels you as well... no one wins.

I agree with it as well... just post it in the forums... not on the for sale ad. It just makes it difficult for anyone to shop due to having 1 or 2 relevant posts out of 56.
