It's funny how a pin like BSD gets little love from collectors, yet many agree on certain aspects about it... killer playability, killer speech, and voted often as best DMD animation and best feature with the Mist Multiball.
I guess it is just because it was movie-based. I miss my old one. It was a great pin (still is...). If you have the opportunity to grab one, go for it. It's a pin that can piss you off by really kicking your a**, but gets you cranked when Dracula belts out a "THIRTY MILLION".
Yeah, yeah Adam... the bats and rats mode is the same... so. Hit video mode wave 4 and we'll talk. Best videomode, bar none. Gets your heart pounding after mode 3!
I think one problem with BSD is that it has a bit of an old school feel to it. Similar to an early system 11 and it doesn't have any sort of wizard modes and only has the three multi ball modes. It stands out compared to games built at the same time.
Now having said that. I enjoy it (when mist multiball is working properly!). The gameplay is challenging and I find that ball time isn't that long. But for some reason, I keep coming back to to. It is especially challenging stacking all three ball modes.
If they had just had better artwork.... That is probably my major criticism of the game.

Not Adam, that's one of my complaints. And if I wanted a video game....I'd buy a video game. Having a good video modes doesn't make up for weak game play. Each to his own. I HATE the game. Hated it when I had it (x 2) and hated it when I tried to sell the damn anchor. Let both of them go, cheap, cheap, cheap.
You know it's funny, whenever I say BSD is crap, someone always says, "Oh you found it too hard...?" or "But it's such a tough game...." Blah! I want a FUN game. ST:TNG is a tough game, for most folks....Adam excluded...but it's so much fun. Some say TZ is a touch game, but again a FUN game. BSD....just the same thing over and over.
If you only want a tough game, buy a Hurricane, remove the outlanes and put mini flippers in it. There you go, tough, but still boring....like BSD.

I have mine configured "Dino style" with almost everything set at very hard, 3 balls, no ball save, levelled pretty steep. It is a b**** ! But so much fun... i love it.
Love my STTNG too, i guess the next in sight is LOTR from all the comments i have read so far, some seems to also like TSPP but i prefer LOTR theme over it (still would like one too depending on what shows up first i guess).
Currently owning: - Solar Fire, Medusa, Flash Gordon, (Centaur), No Fear ------------------

If you get a LOTR, I suggest one adjustment to make it a little more challenging. Revise the Two Tower Multiball so you have to spell KEEP for to light lock. By default, you only have to spell KEEP once and lock ramains lite. I found this to be too easy.
LOTR is an awesome game. I have heard the complaint it's too easy...as in long ball times...but reaching the wizard mode is damn near impossible for mortals such as me.
