It is a horrible pin. I remember playing it way back when, when it was new and praying for the game to end. I know we have some American collectors on here but I find they are the worst for collecting anything and driving the price up. I went to Carlisle for the big car show and saw them paying big bucks for rusted out empty oil cans from the fifties. I mean pure junk! All of us were laughing our asses off at the stupidity.
It's not all of them for sure, but enough that things get foolish.
I am not surprised, still do not see the "novelty" aspect. If there was only 402 made, why? Maybe it is a HORRIBLE pin. But to each his own, after all people do collect anything, including bottles, and even bottle caps.
I have some coke bottles for sale at my wifes garage sale right now. BTW in the future if someone needs something picked up in the Windsor area I would be willing to hold it here for awhile or better yet if you know of a deal this way that you dont want feel free to PM me.

Sure, it's all within reason, but if you see one of the four games on my DOA list that you want I wouldn't be asking me to get those for ya. That's why it is posted up there. It lets everyone know to back away from the pretty pinball.
Man the one Sparky had that he sold to Mike when I was there in November he did not want to look at it work 80+ on it and was only half way there.
Correction... I put a 100$ deposit on it, being all excited that I had found one, then got a good look at it later on, and turned away, leaving my deposit.
And for the record, last time I spoke to Mike (he's been quiet lately... hope he is well!), he had WELL OVER 200 hours put on it, and wasn't finished!!!
Yes, I am pretty optimistic when it comes to rebuilding pins... but I know a hopeless case when I see one.

As Necro stated, it flopped commercially. Like anything radically different out there, it doesn't work out.
Now as for the inflated value of it, all that it takes to do that is have an infinitely small group of collectors with lots of money that all want one... because it is different! Strictly for the conversational value of it!
It's like anything that is rare and in demand. If it was rare but not in demand, value is next to nothing. But have a few that want one, then sellers jack them up. Is a Honda Civic truly a better car than a Toyota Corolla? No. But then again, why does a beat-to-mess 1990 Civic hatchback with 250000kms still fetch over 3000$? Because a certain demographic wants them bad.
Same thing for Kiss pinballs.... yes, they are lame gameplay-wise. Same as Rolling Stones... but then again they are the pins that sell for the most in SS pins. Why? Demand.
Why does Medieval Madness sell for 7500+? Demand.
Why do great pins like Grand Lizard, Flash Gordon, and older Stern pins sell for less? Less demand. Simple as that.
