Note that all the companies that are exempted must also maintain their own do not call list and you can request to be placed on that list (which in theory will keep them away for between 2-4 years I believe)

Except pollsters I believe, they are exempt from both because they are not "selling" anything (which is such BS).

....Or it's a great repository for ALL telemarketers to get Canadian phone numbers....

Conspiracy theorist?  I think it passes through all out minds.  Except that if you get a call and complain it could mean trouble, that is, IF you can trace the call, the telemarketers are already illegally blocking their Caller ID numbers or using faked ones.

One mistake I made once was to ask to have our fax number taken off a marketer's fax list.  Well what actually happened is that they did, but I also inadvertantly qualified the number as a fax number and they resold the number to other marketers....

Give them a break. At least we have this system, too long coming. Don't forget that companies have the same problem. Microsoft Live crashed last Chirstmas, for weeks! Apple's Itunes crashed during the iphone 3G launch, preventing people from activating their phones! People lined up all night, and they weren't allowed to buy the phone until it was activated, it was a nightmare. Various stock market websites crashed yesterday morning due to the volume of trading.

This is the nature of the internet. It's not feasible to spend millions on a server farm that will only be maxed out for 1 day, and lay idle for the rest of its life. There are ways around this though, like renting additional servers, but no one thinks they'll actually need them.

Well as someone who has spent many years costing-out IT systems and building busness cases to assist with cost-benifit analysis I think the government did a great job saving taxpayers money. There is no way you would build a system to scale for a 2 or 3 day peak window. Your costs would be an order of magnitude bigger to support the hardware infrastructure required to host it. After the first few days this site will be pretty much low-volume in comparison to the peak volume.

Who cares if the site crashed and a few thousand people had to wait an extra day to sign up. It is not like people are going to go with another "do not call list" provider are they. No lost revenues, no wasted taxpayer dollars.
