You sir, have just hit the nail on the head... I lived in the US for a year and was constantly amazed at how little was known about Canada.
You know the funny thing about America... It's the little differences. Similar enough that you'd think it would be the same as Canada but just different enough to make you feel out of place. Well, that's how I felt anyways, always uncomfortable.
I think the technical term for it is 'The Royale with Cheese factor'.

That's exactly how I feel about being in the USA as well. There's just enough small differences between home and anywhere I've been in the USA to make me feel a little creeped out. I grew up near the border and we cross-border shopped a lot when we were growing up, and it has always felt like that to me.
