There is a theoretical link between vaccines containing mercury and autism. Many reported cases of autistic symptoms developing after a vaccine is administered in young children.
Just a thought...
I have this rock that keeps away tigers. Does it work? Do you see any tigers around here? How much for the rock? All kidding aside, the amount of mercury in those shots is infinitesimal. You would get more heavy metal poisoning nerve damage from breathing solder smoke than you would get from those shots. People, understandably, worry about their children over the long term and fear the "possibilities". It is also possible to die from the flu. It's a gamble either way. |

Fox News, JD? Fox News? Seriously. At this point I am on neither side of the debate, but Fox News should never be used as a credible reference in any conversation, ever. |

I will tell you if I changed my mind after I got it
Exactly my feeling, too. Although I would hate to be part of the chaining handing the virus off to the others (elderly, young, weak, etc...). |

So, let's assume that physicians are the greatest authority on whether the risks in taking the H1N1 shot outweigh the risk of contracting H1N1.
How many physicians are telling people not to take the shot? |

They may not be the greatest, but they know more than the average dude that freaks out about scary sounding ingredients. BTW, the mercury in vaccines is ethyl-mercury, not methyl-mercury (the harmful kind that is in thermometers). The ethyl-mercury is metabolized by the body and expelled, it is also in amounts lower than is found in a tuna sandwich. It has also been conclusively shown that mercury does not cause autism. Some people thought it did because vaccines are given around the same time that the first symptoms of autism appear, but it turned out to be a coincidence. There's also a lot of fuss being made about the 'adjuvant' squalene that's in the vaccine. This is a natural additive to boost the immune system so that less of the dead virus is needed. This makes the vaccine cheaper and easier to produce. Yoour body also produces squalene and have it flowing through your veins right now. No need to freak out about it. There's a whole lot of vaccine information out there being spread by ideologues who can't stand the mere idea of a vaccine. They will always find an excuse to campaign against them. I don't regret mentioning the girl to prove my point. I know she didn't have a choice since the vaccine wasn't available yet, but what if it had been? I just wanted to highlight that the flu, any flu, is a very serious disease. It's not something you should leave to chance. |

IMO your logic is sound as is your argument ... however as with most forum conversations tact is missing there was no need to mention the 14 year old's death. |

Thanks. I wish I didn't have to bring her up, but when people make light of the severity of a disease, I feel like the best way to convince people that it can be deadly is to bring up a specific case. Was it in poor taste due to her age? There was a 24 year old woman that died a week earlier, I could mention her instead. Consider what would happen if you opt out of the vaccine, then pass on the flu to someone who gets serious complications. I couldn't live with that on my head. |

there still is no guarantee that this will prevent or start it either way you gamble. but you gamble every day when you get out of bed and start the day, we never know what will get us and what wont just have to live make the best decisions you can. I have been in china at the time of the sars outbreak lived to tell the story, we used to hear about Clostridium difficileit (C. difficile) which came from untidy hospitals there was 14 cases last week alone in montreal area. my point is let people decide whats best for them and not let the media scare the crap out of you do some research the people on this board are great at it. note: my previous post the link to the pdf is the consumer leaflet for the product we are receiving. |

i know of 2 people good friends who had the swine flu this summer and they lived to tell the tale. don't you find it odd that they tried to do the same thing in 1976 with massive add campaigns and a large percentage of the people who got the shot ended up with neurological problems. sorry i don't believe one size fits all in when it comes to meds.
I had the H1N1 flu too (I think) and I survived just fine. For most people it's just a week off of work, but for a few it can be very serious and result in hospitalizations or worse. Even in the best case (a week off of work) that puts a major strain on the economy, and that's definitely not something we need right now. It's also not pleasant to be sick, but you don't need me to tell you that. As for the 1976 case, the flu didn't have a wide outbreak like they expected, this time it's different. The disease has spread like wildfire and is spreading very fast. There's already a body count and it's possible that it may mutate like the 1918 strain (also H1N1) and come around again and kill even more people. Also, vaccine manufacturing methods have improved over 30 years and complications are even less likely now. |
