Look what UPS just brought me! Guess RFM will be staying now. Between latest ROM upgrade (much more fun now than with the 0.8 software ), Nucore and this - will have to be a keeper
[ oh, and for the other ignoramuses like myself, Dwight Sullivan [autograph] was one of software designers (along with Lyman Sheats and Keith Johnson) ... but I had to Google that ! http://pinball.wikia.com/wiki/Revenge_From_Mars ]
Whats on the latest roms as I have only played old roms when I am at John Dayhuffs in Battle Creek/Kalamazoo.
Just to clarify...
It's not actually an "eprom" upgrade, but rather new firmware downloaded to the CPU.
Pin2000 were the first to allow software updates via PC download.
To upgrade RFM, you need a laptop with a serial comm port to access the game's MOBO.
There is a special WMS downloader program which facilitates the upgrade.
I believe the last "official" software release is v1.5.
There are rumors of later versions ( v1.6 & v1. but these are mostly PC-specific modifications (more RAM capacity, networking ability, etc...), but these have no impact on gameplay.
Ver 1.5 should be de defacto version.
It offers alot more versatility with the modes, ... and I'm told, more sound options.
-The Getaway: High Speed II!! -Spider-Man -F-14 Tomcat -Guns N' Roses -Lord of the Rings -Twilight Zone
-Medieval Madness! -Indiana Jones (Williams) -Star Trek: The Next Generation -Champion Pub -Terminator 3 -Congo -Johnny Mnemonic -Tales of the Arabian Nights
Steph's right. When I got the game, it had the original 0.8 ROM version that I assume it was shipped with. Was pretty boring as no choice even to pick which scene to start with and very repetitive audio and video. Updated it to 1.5 (thank goodness for saving old laptops ) and much more fun. The playfield is very rough but the cabinet is very nice so figured the playfield was worth it. Still worked out cheaper than buying a HUO or collector quality one. Once Nucore comes then the monitor gets replaced and all set!
The shame was that Dwight listed a few playfields on eBay and the POTC went for just over $200 and I just got one at Allentown for more than 2X that . Oh well - at least I got an RFM which don't show up very often and signed as a bonus.
And it definitely is on the list for the league finals and meeting after.
By the way, just got the sys 11 set up downstairs. HUGE thanks to Steph for the loan of the hydraulic table. There is also a new surprise sys 11 I just picked up....... altho the first pinball league thing on the agenda may be to carry it downstairs and set it up
Once Nucore comes then the monitor gets replaced and all set!

Rick Nieman is working on a LCD replacement for the CRT. I've seen it jigged up and working in a test pin RFM. Looks fantastic. Might be something to consider if you're doing a swap anyhow.
