I am looking to move SS (Strange Science). I am really concerned about moisture getting at the particle board cab. Normally I wrap machines entirely in packing wrap, but from my experience it is not a 100% seal and moisture will creep in.
I was thinking of trying to find a large plastic bag but I don't know where I could locate something like this, or something that I can wrap it in that will not allow any moisture in.
Any thoughts on how to seal it up for shipping. It would be going in a pickup and I don't know the forecast that far out.
What about vapour barrier from home depot? And the red-tape used to tape the vapour barrier? Not cheap as the tape is $10 a roll, and the barrier usually comes in $25 roll sizes I believe... ...Rona I believe sells two grades or barrier - one not approved, but good for this...
How about wrapping it with plastic wrap and then large garbage bags on either side? The bags should over lap and you could use the vapour seal tape Tuborg mentioned to seal them. Just a thought...
I recommend to put it on a palette in the truck, then cover with a tarp secured to the palette. Any rain water will drain to the truck bed. I transported Firepower this way in a downpour, no problems.

Good point, but the pallet is a problem loading I have found.
I usually leave a pin on the cart with the cart underneath just for this purpose. It elevates it above the bed where any water would pool, but this time my cart isn't going for the ride either.

Buy a van?
If I'm wrapping a pin for transport (you never know when those items will be out in the rain), I wrap it in shipping plastic, then completely in cardboard with strategically corner and handle reinforcers and braces for the glass, etc., then re-wrap the whole thing in shipping plastic again. Yes, rain can get in via capilliary action if it's intense, but then it's absorbed by the cardboard wrapping.
If I were driving it in an open trailer then I would think that the tarp or vapour barrier tied over the top trick would help an already wrapped pin (that's how I got my STTNG). You could use some scrap 2x4 to elevate the pin off the bed.

I think the Kirkland extra large garbage bags might do it? I know there very big would have to use 2 of them.
Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.
That is what I do when I transport a pin in my pickup truck. I put a tarp around it and then shrink wrap it very well. Then I rest it on 2 x 4's so if it does rain it is not sitting on the bed of the truck and will get wet. Also get a white tarp, dark colors attract heat and heat up the pin. Never had an issue or a wet pin by doing that.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!
Large heavy duty plastic bags can be found at industrial fabric manufactures distributers. When they ship large rolls of fabric they are protected in these plastic sleeves as they are often dragged on the ground (due to being so heavy) and protected from the elements such as rain. Some will fit a pin.
If you cant source that.
The other suggestions have already been mentioned.
Get the camping ground tarp. Wrap the pin, then wrap that with the packing cellophane. It should be good enough.
guys, the machine is for me ... I do have a CLOSED trailer but I just don't want to do the 10 hour drive ... and somebody with a open trailer / pick up is offering to bring it .. we're just trying to put every chance of our side of not getting the MDF wet.

Trust me I have packed, palleted and moved numerous games. It is from that experience that I know that even with wrapping multiple times with wrap that moisture can still get into the wrapping regardless of how many times around you go. Normally that small amount of dampness isn't a problem because it doesn't have a chance to stay in there for more than a few hours, but this is the particle board cab from hell.
If I can't find a big enough bag I am thinking about using sheets of vapour barrier sealed with barrier tape, then wrapping the whole thing in plastic wrap.
Kirkland, is that sold at Costco? I looked on Canadian Tire's shelf the other day and I didn't see anything big enough there.

I should have thought of that, garbage bags would have been a good idea for the Fish Tales I just sent out.
I thought you had to Pack Fish Tales IN Water, Other wise the Fish on top might die!!
Dave (Not really wanting water in the Fish Tales.)
Here are games I would like to acquire this year, or sometime...

Why not use some of the blue plastic people use to seal off there boats for the winter?
It is cut to any size and seals with a quick pass of a torch. 100% water tight.
just a idea.

I've transported lots of pins in an open trailor and many times in rain (pouring rain) and did exactly as HP5P describes here with no problems what so ever. You can go for this method, no problem Necro. Anyway, if you don't, I'll unwrap it and do it like this myself when I get the pin (no chances to take on a couple hundred dollar investement).Claude.
If you don't have shrink wrap and a tarp, I'll be bringing one with shrink wrap myself, so, just don't wrap it at all and I'll take care of it when I get it.
