I have recently seen the TOMMY translite on Ebay.com for as little at $20. There was also a GNR there a week or so ago. Most translites NOS are repro's - but who cares?
I didn't need either, but I took notice of them. Keep checking ebay.. as something always turns up there.
good luck.
PS: if your thinking about building a light box, I JUST built two. One for the IJ translite my son won last year at the Pinball Champ, and one for my Tee'd off that I had lying around. I can give you pointers if you need. They look AWESOME hanging on your wall.

Dou you have pics? And what kind of wood did you take to make this box? And what type of light do you put in? Thanks! I have some spare translite and want to make a box with it. |

OK thanks, I will keep watching. I'll drop a line on this thread if I see one.

Dou you have pics? And what kind of wood did you take to make this box? And what type of light do you put in? Thanks! I have some spare translite and want to make a box with it.
I used 3" MDF boards at Home Depot. They are about $3.50 each and three sides are primed white. I primed them myself to be sure and also get that 4th side too. I then cut them down to the sizes I needed and cut a groove in the boards about 1/2 inch from the front. I then cut a plexi-glass panel to go over the front of the translite and used novos #1, #3, then #2 to polish it up nice and clear. I then used clear double sided tape to secure the translite to the plexi-glass and inserted it into the groove. I built the box around the translite (plexi) and used my nail gun to secure (should have glued too, but forgot). i then cut a piece of thin peg-board to secure the squareness of the box, but also act as my mount for lighting. I have investigated many different methods to light, (including LED's which would end up costing about $60), but I will be using Xmas LED lights (when the season comes), since these will cost about $10. there was an article in a recent Gamesroom magazine (I think) about mounting the lights, but since I used pegboard, I will be fastening with a glue gun & twist ties (or like) through the peg holes. I'll post some pictures (of the unlit) boxes shortly. |
