Thanks, there is one for sale from a vending company, for $3800. I haven't been to look at it but they said its in mint condition and been totally shopped out. I'm going to try and leave work early today and go and have a look.
Make sure there are no errors and the Clock and Gumball machine are working fine. Also check the slot machine scoop assembly, most are broken because the welded tabs break on the scoop assembly. If they shopped it out properly, they should have taken care of these common failure items.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

I think any seller with an once of credibility would not make a statement like that about a routed machine. Unless it's gone through a place like High End Pins or gone over by at true collector that does not put a price on his time, it is doubtful that you will find it to be mint. Although it may be worth the $3800, with the odd exception of a few highly credible collectors, the term "mint" usually is a gross overstatement.
Yeah I know what you mean, my idea of mint and theirs is probably worlds apart. Its out of my price range really but you don't see them very oftem local and shipping is expensive.
I've never actually owned a pinball machine and the only ones I really remember playing were Twilight Zone, Addams Family and Super Mario. Now I have the space and a little bit of money saved I thought I'd get one. But I don't really know a lot about them, was always more of a video game person.

Steve
TZ is one hell of a first step into the hobby. Nothing like diving in head first, eh?
Well I got space for one machine so it might as well be a good one, I could sell some of my video games but we will just have to see. I'd probably prefer an Addams Family but there doesn't seem to be many of them around either.

My first DMD was a TZ.
I also love the rating system of 1 to 10.
From my experience what some people call a solid 8 in some case I have a hard time giving a 2. This is probably the worst way to explain what you have. I think anything below 7 means the item is there but you will be looking to replace it unless your blind and don't care that it doesn't work.
Well not a great start, when I spoke to them on the phone last week they said they were open 9-5 mon-fri. Left work a little early and went down to have a look, 9-5 apparently means close at 4pm on fridays!!! D**nation, I'll tyr to get there this week but as I have to work all week and the weekend as we are busy its probably not going to happen.
I did find a place that has a battered Addams Family and I'm trying to find out who there supplier is so I can try to cut a deal with them.
Reading this I need to check for the Clock, gumball machine and scoop to be working properly. Any other common things I should be on the lookout for? (apart from obvious wear and tear)
Is there an easy way to test these things like a service mode or something? Soory but I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to pinballs.
Check and make sure that the powerball poximity sensors are working, when a ball is ejected from the trough or when it goes into one of the scoops it should recognize that the powerball is on the playfield.
I would never expect to get a properly shoppped machine from a route operator. If it looks pretty clean, expect to have to shop it again anyhow. You know they won't have taken everything apart and cleaned it properly.

As for route operators, I know of one exception. Nasty Nicks out of Mephis Michigan. If he said he shopped it and it's in good shape it was. Too bad he has run out of machines to sell in the last couple of years.
He used to work for William's and was not your regular operator though.

When I was looking for a Judge Dredd, I almost got sucked into buying one from a store that deals with pinball machines, etc. They wanted to sell it to me for a certain price, THEN shop it. I was like "um, no, I'm not going to pay you a set amount expecting mint condition like you're preaching and then be unhappy with it when you're done". F'n ridiculous. It didn't come with a topper either. They said all their machines had the deadworld mod kit on it too, but when I looked at the unshopped machine, it didn't lol. WTF? Idiots. I guess that's how they make their money though. I regretablly went and bought a gate for the T-2 trough there on the same day, and they popped one out of a T-2 on the floor and charged me 5 bucks for it. So, I got a used gate (which has now broken on me so I need another one), for double to triple the price of a new one. Needless to say I won't be going back there. This was when I was completely new though. You have to watch out for people trying to make a buck.
Owning: Pinslot 1: Terminator 2 Pinslot 2: Demolition Man
Gone But Not Forgotten: Judge Dredd Tales from the Crypt
"Time to assume the position, if you know what I mean."
Well I actually found one in Calgary in a pretty good shape and $800 less the Vendor one.
Picked it up on Monday. Damn those are heavy things, think my neighbour got a hernia carrying into my basement. Had to take all the doors off there hinges to fit it through, thankfully the girlfriend was at work.
Set it up and it seems to play fine, has a few tiny little cracks just starting to appear in the upper playfield and the obligitory switch and scoop damage on the fruit machine section (I ordered uprated switches). I will fix the scoop when the switches come. It also says the trough proximity switchis defective, I haven't looked at it yet so not sure what is wrong with it. Girlfriend and me played it for a coupl eof hours last night, she likes it (not as much as LOTR) and I'm very happy with it.
