They have an option to do the entire conversion for you, I'm planning to go that route.

But I'm defintly picking up this pin if I can get on the list.

Sad thing is that the price of DP pins just jumped now due to this...

I wonder what kind of layout it will have. I admit having played and enjoyed DP as a kid, but lets face it... 1 ejector hole, 3 pop bumpers, 7 score targets, 4 in-line drop targets and 5 rollover switches including the inlanes and outlanes... not much going on. Probably the early SS Bally with the most underused playfield space and hardware capability. probably why it is an easy choice for a kit I guess.

I am game though.

You're kidding, right? The kit is going to cost $1,000. I'm guessing that is USD, so add about 30%. Now add shipping. Yikes! Besides the truely insane collector who wants something unique, I just don't see a mad swarm driving the price up. Could be me.

Regardless... I just emailed Kevin and Mike... I told them to count me in for a kit.

I guess business is good

Different strokes for different folks. I personally don't get it and I like old school games. I'd rather have a minted out BK for close to the same money. Two freshly clear coated playfields....yum!

I was under the impression this was going to be a brand new playfield and not a repaint of of Dolly Parton.  The hardware from dolly will be used, cabinet, wiring loom and so forth but they are adding new boards and stuff.

They talk about New toys, also adding in a new sound board.

For me the fact they are only making 100 of them is the reason I'm going for it.

Even if I don't like it, I don't see how I would have a problem selling it for what I paid for it end of the day.  Plus it's an oppertunity to own a limited edition machine and support a great group of people.

Adam, I couldn't have said it better myself.  The fact it's Kevin and Mike behind the project is a huge reason why I'm jumping on board.  (the fun factor and to be a part of something unique is just gravy)

I'm personally just going to go for the full machine, they say it will be less then $2500, but saves me the hassle of having to try and do the Stencils myself.

The Stencils, PF Swap, and everything else, it just seems like a better deal IMO to just pay the $2500 and get the full machine.

Ok, that's where you and I differ.  Yes I understand your logic in that $2500 for a complete machine is a fantastic deal, but the satisfaction I will get from doing all the work myself is worth more than the money I will save.  Call me a glutton for punishment if you will, I'm just crazy like that! (I have visions of this being the perfect father / son project)

As for a shipping discount, I'm sure we'd be able to work something out with the CPR guys.  I'll be signing up for at least 2 kits, and I wouldn't be surprised to see at least 10 kits coming to the Toronto area.  (and that's probably a conservative number)

I know a guy who refurbishes cabs... he basically rebuilds them completely. He does an awesome job too. Top notch work, and inexpensive on top of that...

Give him a shout:  http://www.pinregen.com

He also seems to deliver every once in a while to Toronto...

He could even assemble the whole playfield if needed...

I couldn't quite tease out what you'd need to secure for the version that comes with cabinet, it seemed like you would need something, that it wouldn't be complete??

Given the relative excitement in a small sample like MAACA, I'm going to say "I stand corrected". Given that some folks are looking at buying multiple kits just in the MAACA world, I appreciate that there is a larger, just as insane group, driving up the price of DP.

Who??

I know that is an option only thing is, I then have to find a DP, get it to me, then get it to you, plus buy the kit, pay for the shipping, pay for the shipping from you to me, so on and so forth.

End of the day I would most likely end up saving not much and it just seems easier to go for the whole machine since I don't have the skill or tools to properly do a Stencil kit.

Couldn't you also just use a Six Million Dollar Man, with some extra modifications? Or other Bally games of the same era? If all you need is the cab and wiring, then they should also suffice, right?

I would think the inserts are going to be matched to DP, so that's they only way to go unless you want to do all the wiring for the proper inserts. Not to mention the hardware for the in-line drop targets, the saucer, etc.

I don't think it will match at all... they say that they give you a playfield. Nothing states that it will be the same. You can have a different layout on the playfield with the same mechanical components but just rearranged, and have a wiring plan given with the playfield in order to take the wiring from DP and put it on the LV playfield. The sky is the limit...

Fair point. My initial point was that you will need the wiring from a DP. Perhaps I didn't give the best example. My point is a Six Million Dollar Man pin isn't going to have the same wiring or hardware as DP.

I believe the tough one is the in-line drop targets... the rest is fairly common.

I'm not going to argue the point. They say you need a DP. I think there is a reason for that. Otherwise, they would say "You can start with any of these games...".

I really don't care one way or the other. I'm not buying one.

I need your expert opinion here....

If a really want this pin...  Is it realistic to think I will be lucky enought to be in the 100 persons to have one... Can I start to look for a DP right know ... Is there any one of you that have good contact with CPR to be sure I will get one... Just ask because I dont want to try to get one and finish with a ugly Dolly Parton pinball with a flacking backglass in my gameroom.

Thank's Gino

They will be taking pre-orders I'm sure before the kits are ready, I don't know how hard it will be to get on the list, but I wouldn't worry about finding a DP until you get on the pre-order list.

Just an idea, for those of us here that are for sure getting one, I know I'm on that list, maybe we could all keep an eye out for each other and notify the group when they see it go up?  I know I'm going to be trying to keep and eye on it, but 2010 is quite a ways off and who knows mabye they open it up early.

At the very least, the lamp insert panel behind the backglass would need to be from a DP so the displays and controlled lamps will line-up with the new backglass. And the wiring harness is also specific to DP, although with enough effort, you could probably figure out how to make any harness work, but it would be much more of a pain in the rear. Then there's the rest of the hardware, like Sparky mentioned...

I got news from Kevin... he states that preorder is still far away, but saw what I did and offered a partnership. I will offer a special rate to whoever wants a Lost Vegas cabinet done.  Depending on the condition, it should be around 250$ for a complete job if the stencils are shipped to me. That is approximately 150$ off the regular rate for a cab refurbish. It makes an interestign option for someone who wants a LV kit but doesn't want to deal with the hassle of a cabinet job.

More to come soon...

One things as well... If I can get my hands on one Dolly Parton cabinet or even just a head, I can reproduce the light panel in the backbox to match the DP light pattern... this means that basically if you have just about ANY old standard SS Bally cabinet made from 1977 until 1984, I will be able to make your cabinet.

Actually, it will do. Cab wire loom is exactly the same. Just find a populated DP playfield, and you would be set.

Historically, don't converted pins sell for little $$? (I'm thinking of The Professional)
Do people think that Lost Vegas will increased the value of their pin? I guess it would depend on how well done it is. Plus, the fact that it's such a low run could raise its value.

1- Just LOOK at a Professional... fugly.

2- DP already has a low value...

3- a limited run means that chances are that it will increase the value, even if just a bit.

4- CPR are doing it for the hell of it... not becuase they want to make a shyteload of money.

5- Makes for a cool looking pin to have.

6- It has strippers and apparently mutant nuclear fallout zombies on it... how cool is that?!?!

Strippers have limited the audience and I'm sure turned off one famous MAACA collector.   That said - great to see they are doing this and I hope this is just the tip of the iceberg.   They are teamed up with Altek it seems so that could be the start.   I wonder what the sound board is like - and what sounds it will be capable of?   I would love a remake of Vikings sounds (away from police sirens and space odyseey sounds).   (Assuming I can get Viking to make sounds again)...   Amazingly the strippers didn't turn Jen off too much - would have to see the end artwork, but I'd definately be interested in an early SS game with unique/modern artwork and sounds...

Looking forward to more of these conversions by CPR....

Anything new on this project?

I was just on their site and they are behind on updating the comic book.

Do you think they will have a VP version of the game for test play?
