Just a venting session more than anything else. My EFTLW would reset during play. I take out the MPU and have a look. Put it back in. Turn on the game...well, well, well, ....now I have no solenoids at all.
I check the sol. fuse....yeah, it's blown. I wonder why ? I replace it and turn on the machine....all of a sudden, the right slingshot coil locks on and blows the fuse again. I replace the fuse and turn the machine on and off quickly and observe that the sling coil is still locking on. Hmmm...where did this problem come from ?
The schematics indicate that the sling coil uses transistor Q14. I see that it has been replaced before, so I figure that patch had not worked so well, so I put in another 102 transistor. At the same time, I take out the sol. board and solder in a new C1 cap. Figure I might as well smooth out the +5 since this may be causing my reset problem ( the reason I started trouble-shooting in the first place ! )
I replace the MPU and the sol. board...very carefully...and turn on the machine.
Now it appears, the MPU won't even boot up. The LED doesn't light up at all. It just sits there ! How could simply changing a transistor do that !????
If I ever fix this thing, that is it for me and 6803 boards !!!
Is it an atom? No, it's multiball! Complete MAACA-Wacko!

Glen-
I had a very similar situation with a WPC Fliptronic board after swapping a cap and BR. Wouldnt boot after that. Hate to say it but unless you are an electronic tech and have a test rig there are some things that are best left to those that do (pardon my ignorance if you do). You might have inadvertently blown a minor IC, as I had. Mindstorm fixed it all up and swapped a few connectors while he was at it.
Locked on transistor...you knew the fix. Why did it happen now? Old board, manipulation, etc.
Mindstorm is leaving the pinball board repair business. Its like the mob, he keeps trying to get out but we keep pulling him back in. Pehaps if someone else here knows a good board repair guy the can recommend and just let them do it!
PS- my EFTLW has a few locked on lamps and Im hesitant to even bother screwing with it as I have little time and it does not affect game play. Also 2 GI lights dead, might try a socket replacement one day.
If you ever end up taking a sledgehammer to the machine, and I hope you dont...let me know I need a screened playfield glass and its impossible to get replacement 3D playfield plastics for those suckers too.

I somehow was under the impression that my EFTLW was previously yours, but I see now that I am all wet. I now own shepP's machine who I believe traded it towards JP from Dave Astill.
The MPU problem has been remedied, and I'm too embarrassed to say how it was remedied. I still do not regret my rant, 'cuz even though the machine is back to playing, it still resets during game play.
I have resoldered connectors, replaced C1 cap, inspected start button,.....I'm out of ideas.
When it resets it DOES eat up a credit. Does that mean that it HAS to be the start button ? Or is the eating up of a credit standard issue ? Oh well, I'll just play my Gottlieb for a while...oh wait....that's broken too !
Just ask the greasy kid behind the counter for an extra token if it eats your credit
