SAW GALLERY IS OUT!

They F'd me in the A'! I went over there to negotiate a set up time the day before, and they informed me that
"they had tried to call me several times (BS!)
turns out there is a gala that weekend and they would have to push me back to the next available weekend. That weekend being the 28th when there will most definately be an f load of snow.
I spent the rest of the afternoon looking for venues with double doors and everything else needed to bring in expensive machines.

The good news: I found some perfect places not to far from downtown. I will be hearing back from them in the next few days.

The bad news: $$$

the show WILL go on folks! Even if it kills me. Who knows, I might get lucky and find an amazing place
I'll keep everyone posted on this.

Here something i have done in the past.
Speak to the city of Ottawa you can rent a gym from a community center for next to nothing.
For something like 100$ depending where you want closer to downtown the more pricey it will get.

Back in my console-collecting days, we'd rent community gyms for swap meets all the time.  They're quite big, and they provide tables and chairs.  

I'd bet you could fit about 40 pins in there.

Also, doesn't your hotel have a conference hall?

The issue with community centers is they don't always meet the power requirements that you need when you have 50+ pinballs running

My hotel is a last resort due to it being at the airport. Thera lots of options, but I'm trying to find a good location now since it's still eary

airport is not so bad. I lived out there a few months ago.

My honest opinion on this subject....

I think you need to take a step back and figure out what you are trying to accomplish.  Really if you rush into things like you seem to be doing it's only going to make for a disorganized show and a big hole in your pocket where the money you spent on this show was.  In the end you want this show to break even and maybe make you a little something eventually for your time and effort.

Rushing to get this thing out the door at all costs is not a good idea.  If you end up taking a bath on this thing I can guarantee you regardless of what you think and feel now it will make you bitter about the whole thing and in the end you won't feeling like putting the time and effort into something that is just going to take money out of your pocket.

My suggestion, start looking into 2011 for the show, there is no reason to rush it out right now.  Take the extra time and really put the extra effort into the show and make it great rather then rushing something out the door and it ends up being mediocre.  

That's my 2 cents on the subject

Good advice Adam. I am still tinkering with the idea here. I still haven't had any news from the latest guy that posted here (SlyDC). He registered, posted about organizing it, and never logged in again.

Tirekicker #8... but I digress...

I could do one in my hometown easily. City Hall has given the green light to me 4 years ago, and I could get the community hall (roughtly 75% of the surface size used by the Toronto show... not the entire hall they used... just the surface they had machines on) for 150$ for the weekend. Problem is that it isn't necessarily in Montreal, and I don't know if many would show.

that's great advice for anyone, but I set deadlines for myself so it gets done! I currently play and tour in 3 bands, coordinate an art gallery cooperative, and work 50 hours a week. If I didn't make things a MUST DO on a tight schedual, I would just sleep all day and give up on life. Seriously!

I got right to work last night and now have a meeting with the owner of the coolest pool hall (HUGE POOL HALL! ) around, and he really wants to make this work. The only thing I'm worried about is getting enough machines into this place to make it worthwhile.

If I pospone the show til next year, what would I become? Tire kicker # 9?
