There are no new players. Most kids/teens don't even know what a pinball machine is. The only way to attract them is by having the machine "look" familiar and you get that with themed machines.
Sad but true.

I'm new, kind of. I only got into pinball a year and a half ago. Would I have pumped quarters into a pin before buying my own pin? I have no idea since I hadn't run across one in the wild for at least a decade.

You never played them as a child or grew up playing in arcades?

Maybe once or twice, but video games were soooo much COOLER!
Seriously, when I decided to get into pinball in late 2007 I posted here, got invited to tuborg's who showed me his machines. At first I didn't even know how to start a game, I figured it out quickly (don't think he noticed), but it took some looking.
Although, I have been a big fan of video pinball for a recent while. I loves me some Metroid Pinball! I've also noticed that Pinball video games still sell well. The 360 game has been a big success, and the same guys announced a brand new game for the PS3. There's also a bunch on the iphone, some are pretty neat. If there's any hope to get people into pinball, it's through video pinball.

I was the exact opposite growing up, I played way more pinball than video games, I always felt that I got more of my quarter's worth out of a pinball machine. They were a little harder to find back in the day than vids were, but I pretty much knew where every machine was in my home town when I was growing up.
Currently Owning: Vids- Road Blasters, Road Runner, Joust, Golden Tee 2005 Pins- Back to the Future, Theatre of Magic, Joker Poker, Grand Tour, Hyperball
Previously Owned: Vids- Far too many to list Pins- High Speedx2, The Shadow, Mystic.
i grew up on video games as well, the arcades I spent time in had pinballs but I was more interestead in the arcades.
But that is the diffrence, there arn't even arcades anymore for anyone to get that exposure, a passing fancy for pinball just doesn't hold it anymore, they need that imediate draw that the license can bring.
Thaaaaaat's a little creepy.. is that Glen in that picture?
