So.. As some of you may or may not know, CBC's Hockey Night in Canada(HNIC) will not have it's anthem anymore. Basically CBC did not want to pay the millions the copyright holders wanted to sell them the song once and for all instead of just liscencing it and getting royalties. So TSN jumped in and THEY bought the song.
CBC has a HNIC anthem contest going on and yours truly came up with an entry.. I wasn't going for something trendy and modern, but rather went for what made the original song a classic.. The original was a jingle (very simple melody), easy to hum/sing/whistle, timeless (brass instruments), and classical (not rock or jazz or anything specific). About 80% of the other entries are hard rock, which is trendy now but may not be in 25 years..
I ain't a composer so given my lack of musical skills I think it's pretty good (lol) .... Anyway here's the link to it.. Let me know what you think.. Don't be shy you won't hurt my feelings (since everyone close to me says I have none anyway )...

Pretty boring compared to the original theme.
Translated: I know it's not as catchy as the original, however I don't think the original was catchy when it first came out! My wife and kids can't stop humming/whistling the tune I came up with so it must be a bit catchy!! Bottom line I respect everyones opinion even if it's how much my submission sucks!

Not bad! I just can't see myself humming it though, then again, I never hummed the original theme either.
Criticism: It seemed to take too long to get to the horns.

Definitely the horns are on track, it gives it that gladiators at the colosseum classic feeling. Might actually be not repetitive enough. It is something that should be recognizable in the shortest bite of it because it is used for many commercial applications. Time is money on TV.
It's the closest I'm going to like to the original. I still can't get over the fact that the original is not going to be used anymore. Absolutely ridiculous. I looked so forward to all those double, and on occasion, triple headers on CBC during the playoffs, and kicking them off with that theme.
Your theme is better than any of the rock themes and maybe with advertising it will become lodged into the heads of many just like the original did.

One of my not so fondest nightmares from 1980 was at somebody firing up the turntable and all of us listening to the entire 18 minute version on the official hockey night in canada album. it will be even more of a collectors item now and i'm hazarding a guess a new version will come out (without the cbc artwork) to satisfy all the pent up demand by christmas..
