Hi... I'm new to this world, and have 2 machines.  MyTSPP is "loosing the balls" sporadically when the balls are sitting in the tray.  Anyone know what's going on?  Also... a stupid question... how do you get the balls out?

You should check out the manual. It tells you how to get the balls out.

What do you mean by "losing the balls". Does the machine say "pinballs missing"?

Welcome.

One of the switches in the ball trough is probably not activating, hence the game thinks a ball is missing. To confirm this, open the coin door and press the "enter" button to start the service menu. Press enter at diagnostics (DIAG), switches (SW) and active switches (ACT), then watch the display as a list of currently-closed switches is shown. Watch for switches 10-13, which are the ball trough sensors. If one of them is not closed when there are indeed four balls in the trough, examine that switch for a loose wire.

You could also check switches 38-40 (couch locks), and possibly 20 (itchy/scratchy saucer), 24 (upper right saucer), 37 (TV), and 55 (upper left VUK) as the ball trough is not the only place balls can be held between games.

To get the balls out, remove the playfield glass, lift the playfield about 30 deg and pull it about 1/4 of the way forward to rest on the front of the cabinet. Look under the playfield and find the coil that kicks the balls into the plunger lane. You should be able to flick the coil plunger with your finger to kick balls out of the trough manually.

Hope that helps.

One I am guessing when your balls get drained or when you start it does not see all your balls.
One thing make sure of is machine is level believe me it makes a difference.
Plus i don't remember off top of my head if it has led or switched I have a game on location i can always check but ah i will give you the 2 run downs. if it is switches make sure balls sit properly on them test the switches out maybe one is bad.
If the re Led make sure there clean on both sides.
Ever need help let me know i could probably help out.

Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.
