If I go LCD, Its Samsung anything but I think it'll be the LN46B610, if only for the 120hz, the 550 I could get the 52" for the same price...but its 60 hz and you can really tell at that size for hockey and stuff like that. I'm going to be watching the olympics on this thing! SO it better keep up. For Plasma, looking at the Panasonic thats 50 or 52 inch but only 720 p. Viera. I compared it with the 1080p plasma and I couldnt tell the difference and this was with an animated blue ray movie playing. The diff between 1080 and 720 is negligible and theres no 1080 p satellite signal being sent through the air is there? SO whats the point for the next couple of years. I think I'm leaning towards the Plasma. These ones arent that bad for glare and they arent power hogs as bad as they used to be.
ANyone know hows the Samsung for plasma?
SO, Samsung 46" lcd or Panasonic plasma...52"...?
Only drag about the Samsung 610 series, no pc inputs. Where do they sell the better models? The 630, 640's etc?

I just bought a Samsung PN58B530 58'' plasma this december. Just a little over $2000. It's FANTASTIC!!! I've never seen colors so vivid. It is of course a 1080P and I'm connected with hd cable. I used to own a 55'' hitashi plasma, but 720P. You wouldn't beleive the difference of the clarity of the image, the colors, the sharpness. The fluidity of the image in a fast moving hockey game or movie is so much better, but my 55'' was about 4 years old, so I guess the processor was much slower. Before buying I compared in the store between led lcd and plasma. The major difference was with the blacks, that look blueish on the lcd.
I had heard that they were going to air the Olympics in full 1080p ... might be worth looking into...
How? Over-the-air standards (ATSC) only allows 720p and 1080i. Is this Bell Expressvu or Rogers?

Thats just what I was thinking, cant air 1080p, its only for blu ray...but the Panasonic plasma I looked at with 720p had a blu ray movie going and it looked great. Of course, its 600hz...the plasma you bought previously that is 720p...maybe it doesnt have as fast a refresh rate as the newer models because I couldnt see any blur etc with the one I saw yesterday. Makes me wonder tho, still cant decide. I think the Samsung LN46B610 is my frontrunner for LCD, for plasma, still Panasonic, just which one! Its so hard to decide. WHy? Because its hard to find all the models to choose from and go and see them. For Lcd models, Samsung generally makes a few versions of each model. Like the LN46B500, LN46B510, LN46B520, 530, 540, 550, 600, 610, etc...you get the idea. Each higher number has more features but try finding them all...good luck. (the 500's are 60 hz, the 600's are 120hz) The 610 model, heck I'd like to find a higher model number but none of the major chains stock them. Where do they end up for petes sake?

As curious as it may be have you tried the Brick?...I know...but maybe. And youve learned well as far as I know Panasonic is definitely the best Plasma out there as well as Samsung for LCD..I dunno about this 1080p launching with the Olympics but that was what I was told. Probably a sales pitch to upgrade me to 1080p..anyway...I say if you have no adverse effects from Plasma as I do ..get it! I would have... \

My advise is the Panasonic Plasma or Pioneer if your budget is ok. Actually at Centre hi-fi Pioneer PDP-5020FD for 2700$ is the absolute best deal for quality/price ratio

THAT is why people go to specialty shops when they are serious about Home Theater.
Major retailers like Futureshop/Best buy, 2001AV etc etc etc, all carry the mainstay models. Bought in quantity to make them even less expensive. Instead of carrying 4 versions of the same tv for people who want different specs, they carry 1 model, and buy 3 times as much, getting bigger discounts. Thus, when you DO find a store that sells the eluse 630 model, it is a small, specialty store, that orders a few at a time, not hundreds, and you pay SIGNIFIGANTLY more for something that isn't necessarily better, just different.
Big box retailers won't even offer to order it (and if they do, the price gets a big uptick) and small format stores can't offer you t he insane deals, since they buy in small quantity.
At least with a specialty store, you'll get someone who knows their stuff (usually) In Toronto, 99% of big box store employees are "Warm Bodies" a retail term for staff with minimal training, and not hired for a specific skillset.
Anyway, I was in Best Buy yesterday looking at TV's, I gotta say LCD has come a long way.. they're pretty comparable to plasma at this point, but without the annoying burn-in. Viewing angle isn't a problem any more, either.
If I had the cash though, I'd go for LED.. man, those things are nice.
Here's hoping OLED takes off.. nothing like a half inch thin TV!

I haven't noticed burn-in on my plasma yet (Panasonic G10), and I do a lot of gaming. Supposedly, this becomes less of a problem over time too, so if I haven't seen it yet, I probably never will.
