Personnally i try a lot of computer games since 1999 and the only two game that i played are Quake 3 arena and Doom3. Any type of war games, anti-terrorism, sports, cars, gestion, detective, or any other kind are not adictive for me.
I find modern gaming very repetitive and very very slow. Personnaly i prefer virtual fiction before virtual reality. Playing with a keyboard make me crazy because i'm used to play with fantastic controllers with classic video game.
My choice is made, classic video games for me are a lot better than any modern games because of the fantastic action gamplay that you almost never see in modern video game.
While i liked old classic arcade games in the past, i enjoy the new racing games a lot. I am a racing games fan, Daytona USA was a must in arcade, we spent countless quarters in the networked version.
I own a Xbox at home, theres quite a lot of games i enjoy, hockey games and racing games will always be my favourites (keep in mind i almost only play hockey with friends, way more fun than against the cpu). I prefer a game that can be played fast (arcade style) to a rpg game that will take weeks to complete. This is the main reason i like pinball machines, quick games here and there when you have a few minutes free, cant beat that feeling. In a way its the same with old arcade classics.
3 days weekend baby !! Time to go home... peace.

I'm 50-50 on the subject. Personally I like the newer, modern games, because of the good graphics and intense gameplay (I have a T2 arcade machine and love playing it each time). But the only downside is that very little of them have an original theme. Most are the same type of game, played in mostly the exact same type of way.
I also really like the classics. There's something to be said about playing those low resolution, 8-bit games.....takes you back to a time where arcade games were a vision of the future. Most of the games were pretty basic to todays standards but hey, they were really fun (and still are really fun)!
At the moment I have more classic machines than modern machines (6-3), but I love playing them all.
Modern arcade games have their place, but they will never have the same feel and wonderment of the originals
well i like some games on the computer and would try some new ones but need some horse power here my p3 933 doesnt cut it any more. now I like to turn something on now play it and turn it off. besides the whole feel generated by a arcade game transports me to another time in my life, to me it cant be beat.
Personally, I think they ran out of ideas for videogames in the 90s, and just started to rehash old stuff, make it more atractive with better graphics and nice cabs. As for the ''dance'' crap and drum solo machines and all of those, a quickly dying fad...Cost a fortune to buy... and a machine operator told me that his new Ms.Pacman/Galaga was making as much money as his latest Dance-Dance Revolution , cost a third of the price, and never wears down. Apparently the sim games are a lot of maintenance...
ahaha get me a DDR machine ! My wife love that, i have it on psx with 2 mats... should i have said that ? We used to dance togheter to sweat a bit, its good for keeping you in shape, must be really nice to own one of those big things, even thou they cant fit in the stairs as everything else, until you can break them appart
This truely shows we all have different taste and its a good thing So DDr machines are cheap to buy then ? lol Let me unload an op...

I was & still am a big fan of older vids. I hadn't seen much in the arcades that was really innovative lately. A while back though I brought my niece & nephew to Pinnochio Arcade, and literally got hooked on Hydro Thunder, the boat racing game by Midway. There's a few other racing games that are really cool too.
BUt in terms of upright games, I think the classic ones are the tops.

I think that the advent of home machines like the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox and high powered PCs have pretty much killed off arcades. Why drop cash in an arcade when you can play the same game at home? Conversley, developers are putting resources into developing vids for the arcades, all the best designers are working on console stuff. Pins and redemtion games are the exception ... I know when I take the kids to places like Chucky Cheese those are the ones usually they'll play. I love my old vids, but I also love a lot of the new games like GTA, Halo and even Mario Kart. I feel lucky to have grown up with the old style games, as it's given me perspective and an appreciation for where the games are today. One thing that the old games have over new ones is the lack of an ending as most are score driven games. The games couldn't be beaten, then discarded like so many console games today.
