Hello all,

I thought I would post here due to info I picked up having spoken to Marty and having had many requests about this MAME and building a similar one.

First, my opinion. You all saw what this MAME was equipped with... Lit buttons, mag stick, 360 sticks, Tron stick, Tornado spinner (no longer available...), 2 light guns, a working pinmame attachment, custom art, beautiful cab, etc. Can someone explain to me how the f**k anyone could offer 400$ for it???? In fact, any offer below what Marty is asking is goddamn indecent. I don't know who offered what, and I don't want to know. There are thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours invested in this machine. To offer so low is like actually being serious of offering 500 bucks for a nice Medieval Madness. There is lowballing, and there is being insulting and wasting someone's time. And the repair to do on it will take about 1 hour, to swap IPACs. Big deal. All you need is a small screwdriver and 1 hour's worth of patience.

Man, no wonder Marty can be frustrated... I would be fuming.

And on my side, I thought I was clear on what was done to build such a control panel...

Which leads to the factual part of my post...

I have had 6 legitimate requests to build an exact replica of that MAME for the same price. Sorry guys... I don't do charity. There are a lot of hours involved in such a build and the minimum for me would be 3200$, and at that price, I don't make much. And at that price, you program it yourself... I just build it.

I don't know if the people that lowballed are truly aware of the effort needed to build such a machine. To be honest, if you don't want to pay, buy an X-Arcade and plug it in your home computer. MAMEs are expensive... please consider that before offering such ridiculous amounts.

Just my 0.02$

Sparky

Holy crap  !

How can someone be so clueless ?!?!?

Even if you don't know the story behind this cab
(...not everyone from this forum has been around that long...),
how can you possibly think that thing could be worth $400

Cripes, the monitor alone is worth at least that !

And collectively ( between Sparky and SpaceCadet ) there's probably
easily over 200 hours of work on there ....

$1500 is a STEAL for that thing...
(...I was almost willing to sleep in the garage for it... )

Sheessshh...  Some people...

S.

Seriously, that's the most impressive MAME cab I've ever seen. Even Sparky's $3200 quote would be worth it. I'm just not into MAME. I have a feeling most people here are more into pinball than arcade games. Maybe Marty should advertise it somewhere where it would be more appreciated, like CGCC?

Someone offered $400???  Ouch!  I know sometimes it's just down to people who don't know the value of something but still.

Ok, I don't remember seeing this thing. Now I am curious. Anyone have a pic?

"Ultra MAME"... will it take out the trash on Thursdays?

The $400 offer does not in the least surprise me on here. I have had offers here before that were laughable. What is really laughable when there is a line up to pay the going rate and they want you to "work with them".

I'll Echo.. and also say good for you sparky, nobody should build a Mame for free, I've done it before, and never
again, simply out of principle and well, sanity.

Nobody should sell their labour cheap, ever, to anyone, whether it's a Mame build or a desk job. Otherwise
we might end up where the cost of living is 4 times higher than the average wage....oh wait, we're already there.
Jesus, I think Mame cabs are the only things left that are actually "Assembled in Canada" lol......

oh well, selling out to China wasn't all bad, I mean, it's not like there are plants closing down left and right here at home, and it's not like we're making a deadly communist country wealthy and powerful beyond mankind's
wildest dreams,  cause I LOVE a good bargain

And I'm no business scholar, but surely the really smart business guys know that there's long term economic stability in making stuff for cheap in China and selling it back to your own people at a 400% markup, I mean, hey, if your'e own people run out
of cash, just "loan" them some, because credit is the same as "having" money! well, except for that whole "no money" thingie
in the states, but they'll bounce back, I mean, all they have to do is charge their people more for the Chinese stuff....lol
