There's lots of "levels" of collecting that I've been through.... here's a couple examples:
-laughing out loud when I got my first pin and people told me I'd have more soon ... "Not me!" -reconfiguring the basement to fit more pins at the expense of my children's toy area -getting in my car to drive for a deal and enraging my wife because of a social engagement that evening that I'd miss -lowered productivity at work because I check my email and sale sites eighty kajillion times a day -keeping a game at work because I don't have room at home -keeping a game at friend's because I don't have room at home
I know, I know - there's guys here who have 20 more levels to tell me about (and please, do!)
But now... I own two of the same title, both working, at the same time. I never thought it would happen to me. A Gtb Sky Jump was listed on Ptbo Kijiji, just down the road from me. I already OWN a Gtb Sky Jump, and it plays pretty well.... but I can't say no to a good deal, right in Ptbo. It's such a great game I now own 2! Can't go wrong, eh? I figure I'll trade it for a wedgehead I don't own.
The best part is that my wife is so used to it all... she said "Well, I guess you better go get it, eh?"
Its something in the water.....I had a drink there a year and a half ago....now I have 5 pins
Pins: F14 Tomcat working Williams Black Knight working Premier Genesis pinball working Dataeast Simpsons working Dataeast Secret Service working HAUNTED HOUSE - project
Vids: PGA Tour Golf, Golden Tee Complete 2 slot machines
I've not been at it nearly as long as you McMean but I'm guilty of all but the "storing a machine at work because I'm out of room" Everything else, I've done lol.
There's also the
"Talking your friends into borrowing their vehicles to pick up pins" "Taking time off of work to attend auctions/events etc"

Congratulations...not necessarily on the purchase, but on reaching the pinnacle of spousal mind-control. It's like reaching the wizard mode. Now the only thing left is the super-wizard mode when SHE actually tells YOU about a really good pin deal. The ultimate of course, is when she comes home with one already in the car because she was unable to get hold of you. I don't think anyone has ever reached that level and lived to tell about it. A massive heart attack probably accompanies such an event, so I have only heard rumours of it's actual occurence.
Anyway, good score on the pin and even better score on the wifely obsequience. You have learned well, grasshopper.

I instantly past into the super-wizard mode when we found a working star trek on the curb side , some 10 years ago . When we moved , i was gonna live it behind , but my wife said "no way , it ' s coming along"

Already started rearranging the basement to make room for the theoretical second and third pin. Now I'm looking at whether it's worth buying anything on credit. After all, if I've only got room for, say, 4 machines, once I have all that space filled, then I'd have to trade to get more, which means that I'd be able to leverage the capital that I'd already invested, right? So, in theory, if each game is worth, on average, $2500, then trading one out, even for something that's more expensive, should be much cheaper than buying yet another machine. Yes, it's crazy logic, but it does look like pins hold their value a whole lot better than other things you could buy. That $5000 TV I bought 5 years ago isn't worth much now (still looks great though).
Is it a bad sign when you start looking for ways to make taking the railing off the basement steps quicker and easier? Or when you just don't bother repairing the dents in the wall on the way down, since you're just going to make more with the next game move?

Awesome, at least it's a good game! I was out of room 10 games ago and now have been loaning them out to family & friends because I can't part with them. It's hard when you spend so much time fixing them, you become attached to your work.

Oh, wow, I have a long way to go to get to any of your levels.
Started last Fall with a Firepower II when I realized that I was not up to cosmetic repair. The wife was relieved (in a HUGE way) when I sold it. She thought that would be the end of it.
Bought a Space Shuttle (great theme) in early January returning me to Pin ownership, however, I just bought Dave Astill's Firepower and since I am still only a one pin guy, I have to sell the Space Shuttle.
I had to buy the Firepower, which is the pin I was really after from the start, but when I told the wife, she was ready to kill me, only relenting when I told her that the Space Shuttle was already sold (and it hasn't yet.)
I had a cyclone when i was in college, wife liked it, then a couple months before we got married, we found out about cgcc and maaca, and the starburst auctions, well we went to one, and ended up coming home with a rollercoaster tycoon, which SHE bought for me as a wedding gift
That next year i went from 2 pins to 7.... and she's totally ok with it, and still comes to the odd auction, but her rule is they all have to stay in the basement, and as long as i play them and enjoy them, then they are allowed to stay.
So i got really lucky with my wife and here's hoping my 3 week old daughter will grow up to love pinball too

Great picture, but the real question is, will there be a NIB IM as a wedding gift?
Not likely, we've got enough expenses with the wedding, there might have been a possibility since my 30th B-Day is coming up and Denise had been looking to get me a new machine, I told her not to though as we had enough expenses with the wedding.
So unless any of my attending guests would like to bring me a very generous wedding gift I don't think there will be a new IM at the wedding

yep. thats what i have been doing for awhile now. ran out of room and started putting them at friends homes. then i sold off things to make some room at the shop. but still left some at friends. yet also bought some more.
I figured it was you that got that Sky Jump.By the time I saw it,it was about 4 hours old with 37 views so I knew I was beat. But I tried and got this.
Hi,
I believe that it is sold. If they don't materialize on Tuesday as planned I will e-mail you. If you don't hear from me before Wed., assume that it is gone.
Yep, it's set up in the basement.... now I have pins with heads touching, no space between (is that another collector level?)
Needs a re-rubbering a good cleaning, and the right sized legs, but it plays 100%. I'd take a pic of the two pins side by side, but remember that part about having pins at friend's houses? Well, Sky Jump is at a friend's house, so these two won't meet until I move. Very nice seller, BTW - we had friends in common so it was a great sale on both parts. Daniel

Hhaha funniest post ever Mrniceguy, thanks for the laugh!
