WOW!!! Pretty amazing, indeed!!

My dad a scrap yard in the mid-70' and early 80' on my grand-father's farm. My bother and I were playing in the cars all the time....He had an old red convertible Alfa Romeo spider in the barn that we buried under stack of hays!!!

Memories...memories...

Yep, people are nuts to let these cars go. Had to think about it but i've had mine since 1977. Bought it when it was 6 years old and kept it since. Yep I was 14 at the time, saved every penny to get it too. The year before I bought a pinball machine. Hell I was an early starter. Wish I had gotten the car new but I was only 8 years old when it was built so that wasn't going to happen. I can't understand how people could drive them into the ground after keeping mine for this long and just simply maintaining it.

It's amazing what people abandon. Buddy and myself are looking at disposal on a bunch of old boats, you know wooders from the 60's. Just junk really EXCEPT they have 427 Fords and 454 Chevs buried in them.

Nice cars...you didn;t shy away from the muscle by any means. The old mopars are bringing a good $$. As for cars in barns they still exist. My primary hobby is combing the back 40 for old relics and antiques. Every once in awhile you find a pin but you almost always find some cool canucks out there. People with old crap are generally nice folks if you don;t intimidate them.
I check the link out every once in awhile. If you are into cars much check out  the garage journal. Has some good pics on where people park their cars with the odd relic sitting in the shop.

I have been involved with 2 barn finds, one being for myself.

1- A buddy of mine called me up stating he found a muscle car that has been in a barn for 28 years. We get there and noticed that a tree has grown in front of the barn doors (bad sign). We get in through the back door and there lies a 1970 Challenger T/A with the 340 6-pack engine. Nice. In the barn since 1978, and is pretty much rusted everywhere and is now a mouse nest. Not so nice.

He has been restorign it slowly since getting it in 2005.

2- In 1996 I worked for a garage that had a contract with a company that rented cars for movies. We would often pick up cars in remote places, bring them over, make them functional and they would be used later. This guy owned over 400 cars.

He comes to the garage one day stating that he heard that a farmer in the Eastern Townships has an old Renault 5 in great shape for sale cheap, and he needed a nice one for a film. So he gave me 1000$ and told me to go get it.

I get there and the farmer leads me towards a barn in the back, stating that the car was his son's and he passed away 6 months prior to that day and just wanted the car gone. He wanted 1000$ for it. I thought it was a bit pricey for a then 10-year-old car but hey... I am not buying it. But he then says something that got me curious... he said that his son had the car brought in from France 3 years earlier. (Huh??? Renaults were still everywhere... why import one ?

Well, when he opened the door, I knew why. It was a race-spec Renault 5 Turbo.... black.... ohhh yeah.

Needless to say that I paid the guy, loaded the car (had been sitting in the barn for 6 months...) and headed for an ATM where I emptied my bank account. I got to the garage, gave the guy is 1000$ back and told him I bought the car. When he saw it arrive 5 minutes later, he was pissed at first but couldn't blame me.

3 months of tuning, cleaning and adjusting, and she was on the road.

OOoh man... what a ride. We had it at 240HP on the dyno, all coming from a 1.4L turbocharged 4-banger mounted at the back. I drove it for a few months until I went to a local car expo where lots of European car owners would hang out. People LOVED the R5... so much that one guy offered me 20 grand for it... which I took. That financed 3 years of rally racing.

My father in law found a numbers matching 427 '68 Vette in a hanger at a airstrip in Northern Ontario. He paid the guy $20K and is giving it the full body off resto. The last insurance appraisal estimated it at 75K.
