I have an old Jukebox I put up on Craigslist and Kijiji. Mostly to try and trade away.  Would have posted it here - but there is no way I can compete with GJD with a mid70's jukebox!

So I get a hit!  But it surely seems to me like I am being setup to cash a bad check.

"Hello,Thanks for the prompt response,i am very interested in buying it
so i will instruct my boss to  mail out(overnight)  bank check  or to  transfer the money to you in Royal Bank Canada that
could be cashed in any  cashing stores and any destination banks for
quick payment, while you hold on my behalf. Once you receive this, my
mover will arrange for pick up at your location.. I will be needing
the following information to issue out  the payment...

1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address not P.O. box(Physical address)
3.Your phone number.

Please note that the payment will be overnight to your address and it
will be delivered within 2 days.I  have taken a close look at the AD
and am satisfied.I appreciate you keeping the item for me.Kindly
delete the posting as i am definitely buying it from you and it would
be sad for me to have the payment in the mail only to be informed
fit's sold.
I will also wait for the check to clear before i have my mover come
for the pick up.
Best regards"

I thought it might be fun to play along for a while, see where the cheque comes from, but I just don't feel like playing this game today.

You are being set up. This smells bad, that is why they invented Paypal and are making a fortune.  If you want to proceed just state you will take a certified check which you will cash and then he can have his movers take the goods.

I say RUN

Take a certified cheque and have him wait until the bank calls you to confirm that everything is OK. When you tell them this, they usually disappear.

I guess the trick with this one, is that he will ask for the money back, after cashing the cheque?

My bet is that the cheque is a fake. Banks have an up to 30-day delay on cheque validation. By that time, the juke can be long gone.

Out of country cheques take FOREVER to process. so it will probably be for his "boss" in (insert faraway country here) that he is getting it for.....

2-3 weeks from now,t he bank says its a fake. and you never see the guy again.

RUN!

In cases like this I demand an "International US POSTAL Money Order" you cash them right on the spot... and if it doesn't clear, no sale plus call the RCMP to invistgage the fraud.

OR, give him some guy you don't like's contact info...

That is assuming he wants the Juke.  I don't see why since it would be a hassle and leave a paper trail.

Easier to ask for a refund and disappear.

I think it is better to sell something for less money to people you know and avoid strangers and complicated situation like this, you may lose a bit moore of money but you will have peace of mind ( not iron maiden pices of mind   )

Even if it's not a scam, but I think it is, why would you want to sell to someone so niave as to post you a response that reads like a script from a cheque scam....are they living under a rock?

I apologize for that, remember the ones i am selling are as is condition, and probably not fully restored and functional. Good luck with your sale

Having not seen yours there is no way to prove my speculation but... your jukes are probably in better shape than this one.

I figured as well that this is a scam, someone looking for me to cash a cheque for them, or similar.

It's just the thought of that jukebox shaped hole I would have had in the garage had me dreaming... I might have been able to stand a puck bowler there

Don't appologize for making another great score.  A lot of collections are getting some pretty cool additions lately as a result of your hard work!

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. Just wish I had room for a puck bowler myself, probably going to bring one down to the shop
