Well, we have had a death in the family today...    Stinky, my old 2-stroke commercial duty LawnBoy mower just croaked on me. The crankshaft broke with no warning after 6 years of faithful service. Sucks too because I gave Stinky a tune-up and a new blade... oh well.

I now will have to use my poker earnings from Friday and use them towards a new mower... but I am sick and tired of the noise and smell and upkeep, etc...

I was wondering if anyone here has a cordless rechargeable mower, and if so, what brand, and what are your impressions.

Thanks for the input, and if anyone has a LawnBoy with a 21'' blade, you can have my almost new blade for free, and any other parts for that matter.

I bought a very used B&K 19'' cordless mower last year, cheap.
Had to purchase and install a new pair of rechargeable batteries ($140)
(I knew it before the purchase).

It is fun !  No more fumes, less noise, no gaz, no oil and look, no cord!

But the machine is heavier than my previous B & S Brute 3.5HP,
(which I had to retire due to a broken/rusted and dangerous deck).

The cordless also does not mulch quite as good as my old gas mower,
and I can just make our lot with one charge (but it would not make it
if the grass is wet or too long). It is more important with the cordless
to have a properly sharpened blade for proper cut.

All in all recommended if you do not have a large size lot.

Bonne chance!

no need to skimp or make sacrifices. why not combine the two?  get a used riding mower that you can retrofit a cocktail video ontop. That way you get to work on your highscore and keep yourself entertained during the drugerdy of lawn care.

So much for me being green. A friend of mine at work just bought a lawn tractor, and offered me his almost new 800$ Toro mower for 150$.

...Needless to say I didn't hesitate.

Next one will be rechargeable.

OF COURSE, the guy at work bailed on the deal. His wife wanted to keep the Toro...

BUT...

Got REAL lucky again last night. Headed to a local used-mower shop and found a few cheap ones at around 100$. Mostly old MTDs, 2-stroke LawnBoys  and Craftsman mowers... not the best.

Then, as I am looking at the mowers, an old man shows up, pushing a mower along. I overheard him saying to the shop owner that he just sold his house and won't be needing it anymore. It was a high-end 2-year-old Honda mower!!! Perfect shape!!

The thief... uh... shop owner offered him a mere 100$ for it. The old man walks out a bit discouraged and seemed to be thinking about it. That's when I went to see him. He said he paid 1400$ for it 2 years ago but wants to sell NOW, and was considering the 100$. I then told him I would give him 200$ cash on the spot.

... the mower is in my shed.

Nice Honda HRC216, variable hydrostatic drive, almost new, 4-stroke QUIET engine (unbelievable... you can have a conversation with someone as it runs...).

I will be having fun as soon as it stops raining.

That should be sometime next year.  Congrats on the new mower.  I got myself a PLM lately.
