I thought it was me too, Search or some other function. A 500 error usually means a server problem, or a database problem (but this board isn't working on a database I believe).
I am truely sorry, I have been run ragged by clients and a wicked head cold, so it is taking me forever to get to transfering the site to another server to test. AND I'm working on a pro bono site for teh Toronto Gameroom Show, so I am caught up in quite a bit right now.

Well, I've been trying all day to move the existing site to my server to test, and while I "can" get a new installation of the eBlah software (which is a year or two out of date) to work ok, under certain circumstances it does 500 error inexplicably on me too .
That being said, the number of files in the existing installation is huge. And the time required to convert the forum from eBlah to say PHPBBS, is going to be too large a comittment for me to take on right now. I keep "adding on" to my pile, and I have to concentrate on work in hand since business has been so bad.
So for the moment, anyway, I am goign to say, let's try to stabilize eBlah mAACA.ORG where it is now, and possibly someone with more time than I can take advantage of my offer for hosting and carry forward with a transfer or conversion.
I wanted to get this done, but I just have literally run out of free time.
It would be a sad shame to lose the resource that is MAACA right now. But it may be that the only way to successfully pull forward is to start fresh with a new and living Forum software installation (like PHP BBS - free or vBulletin - but that's $$$)

MAACA has been so useful to so many people that we wouldn't want to see it down unless all the development and conversion plus testing was done. Under construction would really suck. I would rather blame error 500 on the software and make due, personally. Thanks for trying to make it better Wayne.
People don't like to pay for something they had for free. That said, here's another appeal to anyone who is knowledgeable in this stuff to help us move forward to the next evolutionary step. In the meantime at least we know that MAACA could eventually be even better.
"Verdict: the community prevailed in the end, held together like glue by an outdated, but extremely usable format which works, and allows all of Quattroworld’s users to maintain the forum architecture they grew accustomed to for so many years."

What Pharaoh says makes sense, of course. Yes there are similar and better bbs forum software out there that are more stable, but e-Blah is the evil that we know (and like) right now.
The biggest problem is the time and patience required to transfer over all of the legacy data from the existing site. My first goal was to simply move the site as is with the same software re-installed, to a different server and get it stable again - but even that is more time than I can allocate for a while (not that I thought it would be easy). IF the problem with the forum software is an internal bug, then likely it won't get sorted out since the E-blah software author hasn't touched this software in almost a year now I think.
I think what we need is a keener pc whiz who would want to take this on, and who has enough time/support that taking it on won't affect their livlihood or family.
Very rare, but happened last week a lot...and the search was involved, as well as looking for threads I follow...
I thought about a thing, connection variations, like mine was worst before today, I ordered a YAGI antenna, and as I am out in the boonies, I use a Wilson booster, and a blackberry cradle, with a car antenna (before) while the Rogers Mobile USB card access was around 100kps download, and 40kps upload, I now resolved and improved to 160 to 190kps download and 40-75kps upload simply by getting the uni-directional antenna, which works better.
I thought that guys like me with variable connections might influence the server response to others, as I experienced in online racing ... there was always a guy with so much variations that it influenced the overall result!!!
Anyway, I am all resolved and was simply brainstorming when I saw this thread...
Thanks for your hard work, this website rocks, and has made my experience so much better...
