Yes! I saw those. Why can't I have money now Medusa and Xenon Backglasses would be so fine. IJ NOS playfields would make me happy also....
Vids: Crystal Castles, Gauntlet/Gauntlet II, Donkey Kong Jr., Ms. Pac-Man, Vs. Super Mario Bros. (other Vids in storage - for now) Pins:White Water [WH2O]
It wil not surprises me that these NOS playfield for a A-list games will sell easily for over $1000US. When you then consider all the work to swap it, that is quite an investment.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

The math only works if your the Op who has this played out A list that the game no longer owes you a penny.
Let's face it, if you find a game with a really puked playfield you pass on it. There are many other ones out there for just a bit more with a decent one. Not perfect maybe, but unless you have real anal retention problems, perfect is usually not required and can be had for a fraction of doing this.
I agree with Necro here. I found out i didnt needed perfection on my games...
I live pretty well with my "good enough" examples. However, i consider myself more a player than a collector, if i was to keep my games forever and build a big collection then i guess i can see myself trying to make them perfect (i would of course need the money to do it thou).
Currently owning: - Solar Fire, Medusa, Flash Gordon, (Centaur), No Fear ------------------
Don't get me wrong. I like nice machines and if the pf is shot I won't keep it. Minor imperfections I can live with. I am certain many a machine came right out of the box with minor imperfections.
I just don't understand trying to make something that you play that perfect. It reminds me of the guys who build show cars and then never start the engine because it will get dirty.

I agree w/ you to some extent. The car example is perfect. I have been at shows where the car is towed on the back of a truck, rolled down, and displayed. I talked with an owner of this type of car and he said he had never driven it more than a block at any time. Oh boy, sounds like fun! Give me a real car, thanks. One that can be enjoyed.
However, much like cars, you can restore a pin and still enjoy it. I have seen restored games and HUO games in people's homes, being enjoyed and played. They look amazing! If you have the money and desire for the best, what the hell...more power to you.
No matter what, a **normal** routed game will not look as good as a HUO game or one with a NOS playfield (assuming the playfield is good and not a second). And with home use, the game will continue to look amazing. I have seen a few restored playfields and even after years of home use, they still look brand new.
I guess what I am saying is I can understand someone wanting an NOS playfield. Doesn't mean, I'm going to drop $1,000 USD for one, but I understand it.

I look at it exactly the opposite way... ...pay a bit more for a NOS PF, then you can broaden your selection for a rougher pin.
For instance (..this is a hypothetical example )... Buy a NOS TZ PF for, say, $600. Then, you can afford to buy a worn/routed TZ for $2000-2400 instead of a nice one for $3000-3500+.
(...of course, one will argue that that routed TZ will need alot of other repairs, thus elevating the repair cost, but still, you get the point ...)
I'm actually looking at some of those PF's eventhough I don't have the actual pins. That way, if I have a nice PF, I can look at a wider selection of that particular pin once I decide to get one...
Didnt know those existed ? Can i have one please ?
It seems lately on A-List games, the difference between a very nice playfield and one with significant wear is $300 or less. Prices of pins keeps rising and nobody gives them away, even when the playfield is a POS. Yes I said POS, not NOS. Operators say a TZ is selling for $3000 and if you complain enough because his has wear, he may drop $1-300 if you are lucky. I have never seen anybody discount a A-List pin $1000 for a worn out playfield.

I am not arguing the difference between extremely worn pf and nos pf. I am looking at the difference between a couple of smaller than eraser head sized marks here or there (a couple) over the prospects of ripping out pf, buying new pf, installing everything on new pf and putting it back in. Is it worth it, NO! and no one will ever pay you the difference.
Only the most anal guy will not buy it and he won't give you the extra $1000 plus for the effort.
By the way, if the pf is that worn, everything is that worn.... and it shows, in gameplay and cosmetics.
You can't polish a turd. You will be throwing more than a pf in to get a nice pin out of it if it is that worn.

Some games experience more playfield damage than others. In some cases, it is the design of the game, in others it might be that the conditions at the time caused the paint or inserts not to adhere properly.
Playfields on AFM, for example, are often blown. I have seen and played 2 restored examples of this game. Both cleared by Bill Davis and they were awesome. The playfields absolutely looked amazing and I am willing to put money on it that either game would sell for more than the current market price. They certainly aren't polished "turds" and I would gladly own either one.
