Man, that sucks,

My inlaws have had their basement flood with sewage twice this year because of heavy rainfalls, they had finally just got all the repairs done and the new carpet laid down when the next morning, it all happened again,

I hope everything gets repaired quickly and painlessly, and that your machines are ok those are some nice titles!

Good luck sir!

Eric

It was quite a storm over here in Montreal around 4pm...

City sewers got blocked and flooded the whole basement.. water was actually coming FROM the drain...

That really sucks. You have my sympathy!  The last time we had a flood the washer spilled three cycles of water from a broken drain pipe.  The basement drain was closed (you know, the one that keeps the sewage from coming back UP into your house...).  Well my son and I go down and I stick my hand in the water to release the drain (about 4 inches), and look to the side to see extension cords sitting under the water.  I never moved my hand so fast, but of course if it were live it would have been too late.  What saved me?  I had it plugged into a GFI which had blown ... so those suckers really work!

i was 2  minutes from home on the metropolitan (on the st. michel overpass area) and i was surprised at the killer sized puddles. it was like driving through a beach.. then when i pulled into the driveway, i saw 2 feet of water pushing against the garage door!

luckily, only 2 inches flooded the basement (since my basement is lower than the garage floor) and i only lost a few cardboard boxes.. then again, i find out in the morning if the furniture or gyproc walls are damaged or not

weird thing. my 3 telephone lines are knocked out. yet the dsl on one of the damaged lines is working.. go figure..

that really sucks.. reminds me of the infamous montreal flood of '87.  2 feet and more of water in the basement. during the rebuild, my father made an 18" cement baseboard at the bottom of the walls, so that if any flooding happened. the walls would be safe. After all the flood of '87 was a once every 100 year storm... 6 years later, the city accidentally punctured the main right infront of our driveway.

3 freaking feet of water.

really learnt to curse water after that. and makes me wonder how the double hockey sticks, people can live in the flood plains, year after year.

Mine was grey water.
And about a foot worth did not realise it right away was working crazy shifts sat for a day went up the 2x4 in the wall insurance desjardin was so slow that after a week i had mold had to demolish basement.
They never showed up the dam bastards so I documented all of it and did it myself.

Under the circumstances, I would say that is exactly what you should do. The hazard light warns other drivers you aren't driving at high way speed.

Really sorry to read about your situation, Sylvain.

I would assume that  someone with 4 ways on is supposed to be stopped. If you think about it it's actually more dangerous. First off you can no longer signal you intent to change lanes. And then on some older cars the brake lights won't work with the 4 ways on.

Hopefully you got to it in time. I would get those machines out of there and into a dry environment as quickly as possible. You should also get something to use as a dessicant inside the machines. If nothing else is handy, rice will absorb some of the moisture.

Its not that humid anymore, i have 2 deshumidifiers running since saturday night, i removed all i could from the carpet with a shopvac saturday night and sunday morning.

Problem right now is the odour... i got all the wet stuff out in the garage and the carpet is almost completely dry now, the 2 deshumifiers are making heat as well so it helped a lot.

Nto sure whats next, talking with insurances and trying to set this up. Wife is at home but i had to come back to work...

The rug smell like mess... i have to take it out but waiting for them to send the responsible team (wife is waiting for the phone call, they were supposed to call back an hour ago.).

Well, the stink from the water is probably in the walls. Sheetrock probably will come down. But don't be discouraged by this... sheetrock is easy.

As for what is next, usually an insurance company will send over a cleaning company (like Qualinet...) to clean up what is there now, and then they will probably send a contractor to fix the damage. Problem is that it might take a bit of time since there are probably A LOT of claims happening right now.

If you can, ask the insurance company if they can send a cleaning crew ASAP, and then ask them if YOU can remove any old moldy sheetrock, AFTER having taken tons of pictures of course.

...And get those pinball machines in your garage ASAP if it is still damp in there.

This being said, just say the word, and I am there with tools in the van, and I am sure that many others are willing to come over to help.

And Sylvain, I know I may live a bit far from you, but my house is open to you if you need it. I have a spare bedroom and a few beds and room for the kids, not a problem. It would be my pleasure to help out if you need a place to crash for a while. Let me know!

Maybe if my girlfriend read your "distress" she will let me "save" the STTNG... but with the step-mother in the house for the week, I will have hard time to win   If someone buy me one or two projects she won't mind another pins...
