good luck and remember that Toronto has the most home renovations out of any city in the entire world..believe it or not.

the reason is simple. there is no standards or quality control organization like in the other provinces: ie, Regie du Batiment in quebec..
To get an "official" trade liscence in Ontario is a joke.

Thus the constant cycle of people repairing other people's craptacular work.

Actually I'd lean more towards the return on investment.. a $20-30k renovation can add $100k+ value to your home in Toronto.  Easy money!

The 25k in money we spent (did a lot of work ourselves) this summer has increased our value about 65k with a real estate evaluation.  Big crazy housing markets with "old ownership" homes have a lot of price flex.

You're seriously misinformed - or just talking out your a**.

Exactly where are you getting your information?  Can you qualify this statement?

Oh, and liscence is spelled license.

p.s.  Good luck Ian.  It's a tough gig.  Stick with it and don't be afraid to charge.

Sad to see the shop close up,After all the effort and hard work to get set-up
BUT a hobby should remain a hobby and in the long run I'm shure it s for the best.

Good luck with your new venture!

Mike Homes did a lengthy bit (i think the episode was shot late 2006) about how much better off the  public would be if Ontario would at least adopt the standards and control like La Regie du batiment. That with better construction standards, means tougher entrance exams.

i grew up on construction sites and still hang around those that (sadly) tried some of the ontario workers (when the free trade thing was solved between the provinces).  Construction (through out the world) attracts way too many incompetents whose only skill is scamming people.

so my intestinal tract is well versed in a variety of areas:  even starting to errect more & more public structures

Sparky & i should turn this into a race: which one of us gets his general contractors licence first.

Really sorry to hear that.  It's a shame when someone, who obviously enjoys a hobby very much, has to get out for whatever reason.  I wish you a lot of luck in your new venture.

Of course. And I will still do some pin work, but just very little and just to help out when I can. Just not enough to say that it is a shop. Like I said, I have all this equipment... it would be a shame to just let it sit and rot.

Once I have all the work that I have left to do completed, if I have nothing in the garage and nothing slated for myself, I can do some work.

Besides... how could I turn down someone that has a nice game but rough backglass and all depressed about it, when it could be a quick fix to make the game top shape again?
