ok....

I know I'm as guilty as anyone, but maybe to help curtail the OT chit chat in the classifieds we should simply set the classifieds forum to post only, no replies.  I'm throwing it out there as a devil's advocate.

You want to ask questions or make an offer, or b**** about the asking price you EM or PM.  The original poster can add pictures in their original post, or maybe the software has the ability for only the original poster to add to it and modify it.  Who knows, I don't know this particular BBS software that well.

The PROs are that the post stands as it is an doesn't become a diatribe about the valuation of pins (there are collectors here who only buy low, fix and sell high, and there are lurkers here who probably would buy high just because of the locality).  The original poster doesn't delve into the juvenile when some of the more savvy and jaded members take shots.  Also, we don't put each others nose out of joint by getting into an I PM'd and posted my interest first types of stupid arguments.

The CONs are that there are usually some very valid questions, comments, recommendations and follow-ups that are enjoyable as part of a sale here on MAACA.

I don't know if it's the right thing to do, in fact I like being challenged and contributing in an affable and often raucaus discussion about value, but I throw it out there as a potential suggestion to debate.

If it is even possible with this software.

(and yes, I wish there was a way to selectively "black out" or block the odd user's forum posts once in a while, so I don't have to read their posts, or be tempted to comment - even in a free and democratic arena... I know vBulletin has scripts to allow users this option)

Thoughts?

I like it too.

The idea of only having the original poster being able to add to the thread is a good idea.

If people have useful comments to add ,
they can PM the seller, and he could always decide to post the PM comments on the thread.

That said,  I'm also OK with the status quo .

(...how's that for undecided ! )

Actually there is, check out the 'Buddy & Block' option in your membercenter settings.

I thought that blocks PMs from particular users, I don't think it will black out regular forum posts from a particular user (I would be pleased to be corrected on this!), please confirm.

As long as you're logged in it will block out all posts from members that you see fit to add to your list.
I just tested it and it worked for me.

You can also block out Avatars and those annoying signature lines that take up so much room.

I assume that means it will block-out those posts for you not to see them.

It won't prevent said member from posting, you just won't see it.
(...although everyone else will )

This is just like a "kill-file" on UseNet.

DOH!  Sorry I was looking in the Buddy List (you can use this to block a particular users PMs), but now I see the "User Message Block" option under "Personal Forum Preferences" in the Membercenter.  Working now!

Thank you!

While we are talking about useless post on classifieds, do we need to read on almost every for sale thread that "If I had the money I would be all over it"?  Talk about useless posts. On the other had, I do not mind reading posts from people that have seen the pin and vouch for its condition.

It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

In all fairness, is there anyway to block useless classifieds too?

I'm sorry but I have seen some of the most useless posts on here too. No pics, no firm price or conditions that are pretty well non-existant or penciled in wet Jello.

Sometimes the posts have been to get these guys to firm up and commit to something or at least come to the realization they don't know WTF they want.

I have posted on here with no problems, but my ads have been thorough and the terms thought out.
