O.K.

Twilight Zone vs. Elvira Scared Stiff

Let's hear opinions on these two games.... hopefully from people who own them. I've got a deal going on one of them for Allentown...

SS is a fun pin which you will eventually get bored of, especially if it is your only game. Very animated, SS is a great game in a collection, a pleasant change from pins like TZ that are more players pins. I sold mine recently mainly for the reason that my wife that rarely says anything about my hobby found the pin very offensive, mainly due to innuendo and appearance.

TZ: Deep, challenging, widebody, Tons of shots, a player's pin.

SS: Not that deep, very funny, awesome look, light show, eye candy, will attract non-players more than TZ.

SS: you'll reach "the wizard mode" on ball 2 , hilarious, beautifull.
TZ: will keep you buzy for a very long time.  enough has been said about that pin...you should know what to expect !

it really boils down to what you like. PLAY THEM BOTH but really, SS is waayyyy too easy IMHO. Doesn't mean it's not fun, the humor makes up for it...

SS is a pin your neighbours will love to play (I like it too), TZ is one they'll shy away from unless they watched the series (and even then)... but I am starting to like it too.  So I guess it depends on who the pin is for.

Well, the pin is for me, I'm not really a player...

I've played ( and enjoyed )them both, I just don't think I'm "good" enough to see what others are seeing in TZ. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing it but I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. They are both awesome looking machines in my opinion.

Maybe the theme thing goes a long way with me. I'm kinda leaning towards SS, it just seems more fun, but there is definately not that much to do on that playfield. I think some of the humour is right up my alley.

Thanks for the opinions people... keep them coming!

I've only played a handful of games on both.  I'm with you Dan - probably not a good enough player to appreciate TZ.   SS immediately grabbed me - loved it @ jvegas's place.

SS couldn't make it into our house due to the audio / graphics - but I loved it.

I'm on the hunt for a TZ though - why - 'cause it seems to be very popular & Jen likes the series - and our gameroom only fits so many pins...

^^^

MAYBE.... nah, that's just too much money to hand out in one go. Plus I'm planning on buying a bunch of parts at the show as well.

At the border:
"Anything to declare?"

"Yeah, 10,000 in pinball games and parts......." I could just see the look now.... I don't think so.

Well,

I already sent a few PMs to Bally Boy on this. But in summary, as someone who owns both, I agree with most of the views here. I had no intention of buying SS until I kept playing it at Jims. I fell in love with it (not her). It is funny, flashy and fun. It was the fun factor that really sucked me in. I can't attest to whether or not the fun will wear out as I have owned it for less than a month. It depends on the person. I loved my Cue Ball Wizard too and I know all the collectors (here) hate it. But I really enjoyed the simplicity (when TZ was too much work) after a hard day at the office. Now I really love TZ and for me I would choose keeping my TZ over SS (hopefully I will never have to choose!) However, IMO if you have played them both go with the "fun-4-you" factor first. SS will certainly be the pin for more casual players but that is not to say it would not find a place in the heart of some of us pinheads.

Good luck with the choice. I think your gut is telling you to go for SS.

My reaction was the same as yours in the beginning, but, after a couple of months playing TZ, you understand what the fuss is all about. I did not understand a thing I was doing when I got the game, after a couple of months, I decide to print , from a site, the complete rules of the game (32 pages). After reading only 3 pages, I realized that I had understood (in my 5 months of playing it) only around half of the rules read., HEY! Whats in the 29 other pages?? Now this is DEEP PINBALL!! WHAT A GAME!!!

we're talking about Scared Stiff here. it does have a nice dot matrix display

Elvira and the party monster, on the other hand, does not which is probably the one you're thinking about.
