Just wondering who else was at the Game & Hobby Show that I didn't see today.

They have quite a decent representation of  pinball and video there. Everything from Cirquis Voltaire to Shrek to several new Sterns and some great old school stuff like King Pin and Wizard to name just a few.

The games were set for token play and Mike & Chris were pretty generous giving a few free tokens to people who walked in as a starter.

Hope more of the pinball/coin op devotees will attend tomorrow. It's great to see people who are normally looking at radio control toys and console video games and other stuff walking in and and seeing a rare glimpse of some excellent flipper games. I would estimate there was more than 20 pinballs from the sixties to present. Of course there are a few MAACA people volunteering and helping to expose pinball to a public looking for some great fun.

Most importantly bring your kids if you have any. My daughter had a blast!!

I just wanted to add to Warren's comments in that if anyone thought that pinball was dead, they were wrong. The pins were busy and there were a few quiet booths but not so for the pinballs! There were kids of all ages 5-75, moms, dads, etc... it was busy and very nice to see. And the fact that there were some machines for sale makes it that much more interesting. I know that my buddy is interested in one pin.

Nick, Mike, Christine, Vengeance and Squid did a great job and it is nice to have a tournament happening as well with some fun Sterns like IJ, CSI and Shrek with Spiderman in the background. Nice lineup for old and new games, glad I was there.

Ricker's current lineup;

El Dorado          Flash.                   Royal Flush           Joker Poker
Volley               Pioneer                 Barracora             Black Knight
Meteor             Xenon

Pinball isn't dead.

On the weekends I still do the odd job for my company. Today I go to this guys place (probably a million+ house) up in Keswick on the lake. Buddy takes me for a tour of the place and shows me his "gameroom" he's finishing. Pool table is there and he points out the location where he wants to put in three or four pinballs. He's never owned a pinball in his life, but his plan is to start owning them. Makes me wonder how many future collectors are still out there.

One way to get him into buying machines  would be to get him started with some 80's Gottliebs, then he'll be looking to upgrade real soon.

Actually the guy is a gear head so I think he will safely steer away from those. Has some business selling high octane racing fuel, so he was asking about drag racing theme pins.

All I could come up with specifically related to drag racing was Nitro Ground Shaker and then drew a blank.

I suggested HSII (tac, shifting gears, supercharger) and just for the drag racing aspect of it Corvette since your race up the right side. Other than HS, Indy 500, NASCAR and Mario Andretti I kind of drew a blank when it came to car based pins that I thought fit the criteria. HSII was my main recommendation for the above listed reasons.

Good showing for some pin fun, I stopped by for a minute but was stealthy about it (saturday)  I guess i should have had my Maaca/CGCC crests sewed on (sooo lazy!)

Aside from THAT, the show was a bust though (for my peeps)  THe Brother in law was really wanting to see factory/company representation for some of the REmote control car companies, which was zero.  No Track setup (not even micro scale demo) THey had a pond, smaller than previous years, and some boats, but they had a pretty horrible setup as far as a PA there for announcing... (I work for a music company... SUE ME FOR NOTICING! )

THey had an indoor flyer area, but no-one seemed to be doing anything there... Saturday afternoon....  I would have thought that there would be more "WOW" factor stuff scheduled to keep people interested... We were told by some of the Store guys we knew, that there was new ownership this year... so they had little notice, just grabbed some overstock and showed up!

Last time i went to the hobby show was 3 or 4 yeras ago, bigger show, more displays and demos and less "crap"  There were numerous booths that really didn't have a place there...  I like British potato chips, but they aren't a "hobby"  Shamwows and non stick cookware, also not really "hobby"-like.  I realize that organizers have to pay their bills, but the multitiude of "GREAT CANADIAN X CHAMPIONSHIPS" made it seem a little like a cheesy cash grab.   Seeing some pins and the stuff from FG bradleys (I never get around to going in their stores) was fine for me, but the RC fans i went with had a really sour taste in their mouth, and have stated they will not be returning...  To the extent of logging onto mall the local RC forums and saying how sucky the show was.

(Wow i am getting all wordy here!)

I think the trouble ended up being the watering down of the term "Hobbies"  RC and scale modelers could fill up hall 1 and not have room for anything else, if there was enough interest, and booths weren't too pricey.  And I am sure that some of the other hobbies felt like they weren't well represented as well.   Too many options, and most of the people looked pretty unexcited...  Hope that if the Pinball/Game Room show goes on, that they can stick closer to a "core audience"

Pins:  TMNT (visiting Sparky)
Pinzilla (multipin project) (GOing to visit Terry!)

Vids:  going away... nothing but Mame is staying
