I've never tried the R4DS, but I've got the M3 Real and it works great!

I'm sure they're both pretty much the same

I use the DSTT.  Works fantastic!  From a webste: "One of the main differences with R4DS is the DSTT supports SDHC microSD cards"

You'll definitely want something that supports SDHC.  DS roms take up a lot of space.

I was looking at the 4gb R4 kit and I need 2 of them. one for each kid.

The CycloDS Evolution does look like a more versatile version but  not sure that I need that much. I guess it would depend on the price Difference.

I have the 4 gig version and can fit about 30 or 40 games on the 4 gig module with some pretty hefty games on there.

Really I don't see the need to go larger in size because really you can only play 1 game at a time anyway and that large a variety plus the ease to change games pretty much whenever more then works for me.

But honestly I've stoped using my DS and have moved to my PSP, it's more versitile and a better unit.  Plus once moded you can run emulators on it.  I've got SNES, MAME, and NES on there as well as 3 diffrent ISO's of PSP games.

So since your not using it would you consider selling?
