As you all know my gameroom (basement) has been flooded and i'm about to start rebuilding. I had a carpet before but i would like a nicer floor this time. Ceramic tiles for example. If you have flooring ideas for a gameroom, please post them (with pictures and links if possible) as i have so many things in mind right now, i cant decide on my own Colors and styles, hard enough tiles as i will be moving games on my lift etc... Walls will be rebuilt as well so feel free to give complete design ideas as well. Thanks all ! |

Personally I think ceramic tiles suck. You will find your legs get tired faster. Anything that drops to the ground and is breakable will break. That includes glasses, toys, really any thing plastic or glass. Whenever you take a glass off a game, you will want to put down a carpet or pad under it.
If I was redoing my basement, I would get a nice Berber carpet with plenty of foam for comfort.
I love the look of some laminate flooring; however they do lift quite easily if exposed to water.
Some collectors like the black light carpet, but I find it too much in a normal game room.

If you place ceramic I would add a few $$$ and add the heated tubing would be worth it in the end. |

God, cant say my first Google result was very satisfying: http://www.carpetdyeing.com/berber.html Internet is funny sometimes...
Damn! Ok, you can do like I have done. Cheap, industrial carpeting with nice foam. I did that in my last place. Holds up well and is very inexpensive. Looks decent, too. Shame, I love the look of berber. Will have to do my own research when the time comes to replace my current carpet. The current carpet is far from perfect, but I have kids and they are still making messes so I'm going to leave it as is for a few years. Duane |

Cork. Softer than ceramic hardwood or laminate, looks amazing. |

I'd avoid carpet in basement personally. I just tends to pickup moisture. Ceramic is cold / industrial / bathroom feeling - and does not make a gameroom atmosphere. Laminate flooring is cheap - and depending on the ceiling height you can get the homedepot delta flooring underpadding ( http://www.deltafl.com/) (or Rona sells the blue rolls and add plywood ontop). This makes a very nice warm dry floor with also some give while walking (as opposed to the solid concrete floor). You do get clicking sounds when walking if you use the Home Depot square drycore stuff as it is not anchored to the slab. I'd do the Rona way - and cut playwood to fit. My ceiling was too low so I just used a QuietSound underpadding which is fine - but not as nice. You could also put carpet / vinyl on top of this flooring and it would stay more dry. I guess you never see laminate flooring in a true arcade either... |

Since you are in a flooding zone, I would go for ceramic since it won't suffer too much from your next flooding. There are absolutely beautiful styles and colors that don't look like bathrooms. And it's easy maintenance. If you don't want to pay too much, go to Million Tapis et tuiles on St-Laurent blvd, they have end on line at really good prices. |

I would go with ceramic/porcelain as well. Any other flooring will be subject to damage should you have another water/moisture issue.
If you're looking for the game room/arcade feel, you can always tile with black and white. If you're considering heating the floor, you can install radiant tubing and overpour concrete so long as you have the ceiling height (you will need to pour 2 inches over top min.). I would stay away from the electric heat in the floor, as it has a tendancy to fail after a time and once it's done, it's done.
Laminates will swell and separate with moisture, cork - while super nice to walk on will get torn up moving machines around no matter how careful you are - same with hardwood or engineered hardwood to a lesser degree. Carpet? Well, it's carpet.
Another possibility would be having a company come in that can top coat the concrete with a polymer that is resistant to chemicals and just about everything else. Although this is mostly a garage/showroom type thing, it would be nice in a basement, and you can choose various colours and patterns - and it's virtually bullet proof. |

I hear that. The house we bought closes in about 2 weeks and our first priority is ripping out the carpet the previous owners had goin' on in the basement. The moisture gives off a light musty smell the inspector said would go away if we pulled it out. (We're also smashing down a wall which I'm looking forward to very much.) |
