A friend of mine approached me lately because she has a 1500 comic book collection she needs to sell (she stored it for someone). They're in near-mint to mint condition, all wrapped and on cardboard backing (two per bag). I suggested she pays a young teenager to go through all of them, categorise and place in edition order, then have them cross-chequed with an online source or book for value of each comic. Does that seem like a good idea? If so, anyone in Ottawa have a kid who would be willing to undertake this kind of a task?

Thanks

Alex

I doubt it'd be worth paying someone to go through 1500 comics one by one. She's better off getting someone to randomly pull out a few to figure out the general time period of the comics and just put the whole lot up for sale 'as-is'. I'm not sure what she'd be expecting for it anyways since the market for comic books doesn't look very good, I could be wrong though.

I would suggest taking a look at this software: http://www.collectorz.com/comic/ to help catalog. I bought the Book Collector version to catalog my father's library. I didn't get the scanner but wished I had after the fact but the collection sold. However, I believe upc codes only showed on comic covers that were for general retailers vs direct market (used Spider-man`s face instead) so it would require a bit of typing per but the results are great. The database quickly outputs to html as well.

Is there a site that would list, say, the top 100 collectible comics?

Any idea about some of the titles? or what years the collection spans?

Pick up the latest Wizard magazine. It has a price guide for most recent titles, but will not include obscure stuff and may not include early issues of long running titles. You should be able to find it at any good newsstand. It's published monthly.

This site is a good general price guide. It requires you to sign up but signing up doesn't cost anything.

If you're looking for a quick sale, send them to Doug Salupa. He's near Winnipeg.

http://www.dougcomicworld.com/

He'll take them all and give you a fair price. And shipping ahouldn't be too bad. What are we talking, about 6 or 7 long boxes?
