MM arrived last night at my house. Although it is still in my hallway (I need to find a victim to help me carry it downstairs) MM now completes my collection. I am sure you all believe that I will not buy any more pins!!

Ha ha! Yeah right!
Congrats, now try and defeat it..... good luck. I am still trying.
You can put your feet up and retire as a collector. Oh wait you don't have CC or BBB yet.
Congrats Enzo! I love MM, I find it very cool, Battle for the Kingdom is very tough, plus I like how the game keeps High scores for Damsels, Peasants, Catapults, Jousts Trolls etc. Just a cool feature!

Congrats for sure! I want to come to your house to play Enzo, maybe even help you get that baby into place. By the way, if you do need to make room when the urge to splurge hits again, do give me a call.

This is such a load of crap.
It assumes that collecting pinball machines is only about climbing that proverbial mountain to reach the ultimate pinnacle of collecting paradise, where one must own the top 5 or 10 "A-list" titles to be truly content and be considered a real collector.
I'm so glad I'm easily satisfied with cheap and unpopular games.
No CC, played it, was OK but only if the price was to good to believe, otherwise I am not interested. Same goes for BBB, no immediate interest. Only pin I would like to get now is TOTAN. I was thinking LOTR, played it again and not to start the Stern debate again, I hate the feel of the game. If anyone is interested in selling or trading for a nice TOTAN, let me know.

The scoring is so unbalanced it's lame, beat the lamp, beat the multiplayers, rinse repeat. There is no value to going after anything else, the multiball mabye because then at least you have 3 balls to beat the lamp with.
From a collectors stand point I can understand why they like the game, looks nice, lots of interesting toys, from a players stand point it's a one trick pony.

No, no, don't up the value of TOTAN, that one was going to be next on my list after I recover from Pinball Magic.
Between Laser War, Shaq Attaq (wanted again), Black Knight 2000, Stargate (wanted) and Pinball Magic, I am trying to become the King of undervalued pins before they get priced out of my reach!
HP5P, your tastes in pin quality and budgets are better than mine, so if you come across any dog TOTAN's at a decentprice, would you mind throwing the bones my way?

No problem, will let you know is something comes up.

Hmmm. Every game has a way to beat it for score alone.
Lots of games have lame ways to beat them. For instance NF. start the modes, don't try and complete them. Delay until you can start the next one. Get to the final challenges. Unlock your multiball there and work the ramps from there.
STTNG. Unlock the video mode LLRLLR or whatever the f*** it takes to do it. Rinse, repeat.
On and on there are ways around most games.
Your challenge at tournament is to be able to do the lame defeat better than the next guy. This is not what collectors buy machines for.

Not true.
I'll use your examples:
NF, while the wizard modes are lucrative cradling the ball will not work in the latest revision of the sofware, when the staus menu comes up the timer on the mode stops so that idea doesn't work.
Also there are much more lucrative scoring things then the Wizard modes. The first wizard mode isn't that high scoring, so you have to time out all 6 modes, then start the first wizard mode finish that off and then spell out No Fear to get to the second wizard mode which is much more lucrative.
Also priming up multiball and getting Payback time ready to run is a much better way to make an easy billion points then timing out chalenges.
Also the modes in and of themselves are actualy very lucrative. Asphalt is a very lucrative mode, you can get 300 million for making only 3 shots.
Also another note for scoring on No Fear would be to make 3 right orbit shots to light the supper spinner and then start banging away at the spinner for 1 million a spin.
So No Fear as a game has far more scoring oportunities all of which balance out nicely.
ST:TNG
Although the video mode is very lucrative, it's not easy to achive. You have to be able to consitantly hit the right ramp over and over again.
Warp Factor 9 is a much better scoring oppertunity and requires less shots over all.
Also the multiball if you are good with the cannons can be the most lucrative thing in the game as it is easy to start and if you can make all 3 shots off the cannon you multiply your overall jackpots by 3x.
Also making sure that Q is running at the same time as Multiball is key to monster scores as Q is the only mode in ST:TNG that will run at the same time as multiball and not time out.
So again there are a number of balnced scoring opportunites.
Also other games that come to mind with little to no way of exploiting scoriing would be LOTR, SPP, Congo, Shadow, NGG, CFTBL, TZ, etc, etc.
These games have a good balance of risk vs reward and there isn't a single object in the game that out weighs any of the other things the game has to offer.
TOTAN because the lamp carries over from ball to ball and all you need to go after is the multipliers it makes no sense from a scoring perspective to go after anything else. The only other thing that offers the scoring potential that the lamp does in TOTAN is the wizard mode which is much to difficult to achive on a regular basics. The modes don't offer enough scoring potential other then to build towards completing the wizard mode. You rack up the X's to 8 x and spin that lamp I've seen bouns values of over 14 million and on such a low scoring game as TOTAN that is huge, espically since it can be carried ball to ball.
That's why I call it a one trick pony, the scoring is so imbalnced that nothing else is worthwhile.
I don't deny that as a game to complete it is chalenging and can be fun to play but from the player perspective it's not worth it
The lamp isn't just about spinning it. You have to spin it sufficiently to get to the lightning threshold to get the bonus to lock. Then leave it alone! Then you can repeat this process to the next threshold. If this is your aim, then it is a decent challenge. I don't see many getting the lamp bonus maxed out in a game only because they aren't successful in doing this reliably. There are lots of other things in the game trying to f*** you up while you are trying to do only this, not to mention other things you are trying to achieve.
Depending on the lamp, one good shot should get it to lightning lamp, then the question becomes, so I spin the hell out of it with lightning and try and gain points that way or let it time out and work the bonus. If you can get 3x lightning lamp off the bazar it is much more lucrative to keep that lamp spinning sometimes getting 500,000 - 1,000,000 for a decent spin on 3x.
Either way the scoring all centers around the lamp
Like I said my main gripe is balanced scoring, the balance isn't there. While I agree there are other things to achive, things to complete and stuff to do. From a scoring perspective they don't offer the value that the lamp does, that is all I'm saying.

WTF. I would say if that is your biggest gripe it really amounts to nothing. Spinning the hell out of the lamp is fun.
I have played many a game that what you have to do to achieve points is fn' boring. Hit a stationary target or whatever. Be thankful the lamp is fun for you tourney players. Nuff said.
I'd much rather have a varied amount of shots then have to beat on one thing over and over again.
That's why I can't wait till I get my SPP, now there is a game with a TON of shots, (Oh yea I went there back to the Stern Debate )
Look, whatever you are trying to achieve on TOTAN is notional anyways. Keep up the good work Vengeance and one day you may master it and beat me on it.
Never said it was easy, I said the scoring was unbalanced and it's a one trick pony
Knowing what to do and executing are 2 diffrent things
Funny thing is the very highest scoring has occurred through working the jackpots, multiballs and fighting the final battle. I think you need to qualify that you are trying to achieve the safe bet tournament scoring whereas the the stratospheric scores are actually obtained from doing what you would probably never achieve in tournament play. I understand going for the safe bet route, the other is a gamble.
By the way you should look at the rules again. The Fireball if you can make the shot three times and strike the genie is worth a whopping 1 million. The Jackpots start at a million. The the entire lamp bonus rarely gets you into more than a couple million. Each challenge tallies into the bonus. It's not as unbalanced as you may think. Also you are not trying to achieve the extra balls available in the game which you cannot do by striking the lamp alone. Each of those balls significantly effects the final score when played.
I agree with Adam ... it's nice for Guests ... it's the one they like the most but playing it ... yeah sure it's nice, the sounds are great but if you can actually PLAY pinball, it gets boring real quick
Mrhide.pinnesota.org RAA La marié de Pinbot et La Créature du Lagon Noir, Eclipse et Capt. Card
I can't think of a single time playing TOTAN where the Genie has ever started off at 1 mil. It usually starts between 200,000 - 400,000 and counts down FAST! Then you need to hit the left ramp to build it up during the event and it will usually take 3 or 4 hits to get it up to 1 mil, and considering the left ramp feeds the left flipper it's not easy to then pass it back to the right and make the shot again.
You need the lamp + the multipliers, one without the other is going to get you squat. Also modes are going to be running because as you are building toward the mutiball they are going to start by striking the genie and when your smaking the lamp the ball will ussually bounce around enough to hit a few of the golden symbols. Then up the ramp to complete the mode. But again not the primary focus, I'm still going to be beating the lamp any of the other items are just going to be gravy.
Extra Balls?? Come to my place see how many extra balls you get Almost any tournament you play in extra balls will be off or not playable so working towards an extra ball is usually not a priority on my list, unless it's a Stern because at least in the newer sterns when extra balls are off you get awarded points for colleecting an extra ball which is nice.
I agree with Adam ... it's nice for Guests ... it's the one they like the most but playing it ... yeah sure it's nice, the sounds are great but if you can actually PLAY pinball, it gets boring real quick
Yeah, the dead (i.e. BSD) are so much more lively to play with.

That's it, that's it .. keep bringing down the value. It's a terrible pin, over-priced - just nasty!
(But perfect for me because I don't actually play pinball. At least not in the league of most of the top scorers here!)
take your time ... there's actually 3 JM for sale right now here on the board.
there's only one with a pinballpro subwoofer
Guess I should have jumped on that one and only Jungle Lord you had, now there was a priority.
I can't speak for the rest but the one I have is very nice. It's also in southern Ontario.
I apologize for Phil, he covets HP5P's MM. That's the only reason why he's a nasty prick tonight. Well that and the fact he was raised by trolls and never learned any manners.
Holy Sufferings!! I really did not know that announcing I had picked up a MM would have caused so many emotions to be expressed, will have to be careful for the next time.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!
By the way Websherpa, get your mess together before number three on your wish list is gone.
OK, I'll bite, but treat me like a dumb post and point me in the right direction please. I see the nice one in montreal for $1650 - but are there others I'm missing? But believe me, if I AM going to pick up another pin so soon (I am still paying for Pinball Magic), there's going to have to be a fire sale at my house! I both love and hate the Fall Pinball Season, it's like, when the leaves start falling, the pinballs start falling from the trees.... and whose got the time, money and space for all them deals!
Maybe we should affectionately call this time of year "The Great Shuffle"

Don't worry guys, I want a JM, whether I can afford it right now is the bigger question. Never say never, but I am going to have to hold back until either January, or I sell/trade some of the pinstock I have on hand right now. http://www.coinopcollectables.com But do feel free to keep competitng offers until then!
No I`m not. and when the time was ready for it to move to toronto, the "interrested buyer" who mentionned/ask for it to be moved there did what he did before : nothing.
So here it stays.
Adam I would love to get your HH but I`ve got to pay for IJ so I can`t. Some other time perhaps.

Get both, it's only money
But I know the feeling, I want a SPP. but seeing things like the CV, IJ, and other maachines come up almost sways me to buy those instead but SPP takes priority as it's the better machine.

Right, hence the reason that with most of the buyers, in Ontario for the mostpart, willing to pay the going rate look for steep discounts when buying form the guys in Montreal for having to do all the legwork.

I will comment that I have picked up slot machines cheaper in Montreal and seen pretty good pricing on Pinballs, but often the games are really well used. I would imagine that pinball is still more poular in Quebec for some reason, and there's more machines available. Can you still smoke in bars there?
Up until now I've been concentrating on used machines needing a little fixin gup so that I could play with them , fix them up and sell them off. Starting with BK2K though, I seem to be transitioning into looking after/upgrading to/leaning towards better quality machiens for my collection.
I stil llike to tinker and fix them more than I do anything else, and routed games have character and history, but there is something about nice shiny nearly HUO pins. (it's a slippery slope isn't it).
I like IJ, fun game, great toys, best video modes that have ever been put into Pinball.
Tons of modes, fun multiball, a great game. I have yet to make it to the Wizard mode on IJ, althought I was one shot away once and drained, then bought in another ball just because I wasn't going to let it get away, and drained that one, that sucked!
It took me 6 years to actually come across one locally... had a blast in the arcades when it came out so it's nostalgia for me... really happy to have it, have to shop it and THEN I'll take pics.

I predict you will hate it and rant on and on and on about it. Want to master IJ? Hit the drop targets! Hit the drop targets! Hit the drop targets. Multiball is so lucrative that the rest is pointless. Still a fun game, but it is definitely one sided.
And the video modes. Very quickly you will come to hate "Choose Wisely". It's too easy and takes too long. The other two are awesome, though.
Don't get me wrong, I like the game, but given your HATE for other great games: CV, AFM, etc. I know your love for IJ will be short lived.

He's got your number.
Not drooling at all. IJ seems to be the one title that is available quite often. I guess there are a lot of other guys like you that just can't hold onto anything.

???? I've had a ton of games in my collection for 3 years and more. Not sure where this comment comes from. Sure I have sold AFM, IJ and a couple of others in the last year, but that hardly justifies "...cann't hold onto anything". I've had NGG, TZ, and CV for well over 3 years. TZ is almost 10 years. LOTR, I think, 2 years now.
He's talking to me but you're welcome to engage him
Yeah Duane. Don't steal Mrhide's heat. I am looking for some more firewood to add to the flames. Phil you got any of those project cabs kicking around?
He's talking to me but you're welcome to engage him
That's what I thought, but figured I should double check. Ok, have at it you two. Don't know who I want to win. The Stern hater or the "I hate every pinball I don't own".

Duane
ok now you're asking for it ! Necro can you hold him?
I like titles that gives me a challenge ... have you played spiderman? I played for 20 minutes on the first ball and left it there with 2 extra balls !
Space is really a pain ... cause I had to sell a few pins recently and you know how much that hurts ... every time!
IJ is a fun pin and yes, I'm curious to see if it will hold my interest for a long time.
I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY loving STTNG and for the price, this is THE most underated pin ever! seriously! what a blast!
I will get LOTR eventually ... it's still in my plans and loving the movies and the dvds, I'm sure I will enjoy it.
I'm not a fan of the simpsons so the theme is killing that game for me ... I keep hearing good things about it though.
I think I'll go and work on pharaoh now to see if once completed, I'll enjoy the gameplay! ( cause you know... I've NEVER PLAYED A REAL PHARAOH ... EVER! )
Which non-wpc pin do you own now ? that Taxi you want to sell ? ( Mike's right?!) and Banzai run I believe... anything else?

There you guys go again, talking up one of the pins I lust after (STNNG), I spent a enough drunken nights pumping quarters (or whatever, I was drunk) into it at my friend's bar ... now I think I should own one to exact my revenge. But couldn't we for once agree on a "reverse" code so we don't start driving up prices and demand? I mean, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Simpson's Pinball Party and South Park, two stellar pins worth their weight in gold, not like those dirty ugly annoying STTNG thingies...
Where to begin???? Let's see...you will get bored of IJ. I give it one month max. Game doesn't hold a handle to ST:TNG or TZ. They are challenging and completing the modes is not only fun, but rewarding. In TZ, you can stack the modes. That adds alot to the game. Problem w/ IJ is you cann't stack the modes and they aren't worth a ton. You will find yourself starting multiball and going for the triple Jackpots....then the Super Jackpots (which is rewarding and fun).
ST:TNG we agree on. Best value pin there is. Period. I cann't believe how cheap they sell for given the game play. Awesome game!
Non-WPC games I own: SoF, Whirlwind, Jurassic Park, LOTR, Taxi (not Mike's, I didn't buy that one), Space Station, and 4 Million BC. I've pretty much owned every Sys. 11 and sold most of them. Banzai Run was sold a long time ago. Fun game. Really fun. Hated to sell it, but I only have so much room and money. Such is life.
I was good with you up to LOTR. Then the alliance ended.
Any alliance we have will alway be on a shaky foundation at least until you actually play Sterns and get it. I mean for $3,500 -- the price of an IJ -- you can get a HUO LOTR (I paid substantially more thanks to the weaker dollar at the time). LOTR is a much, much better game.
I'm not the biggest widebody fan to be honest. Everytime TZ does a SDTM shot to me I find it harder to muscle it around than a standard width. Widebody plus a front end that seems as heavy as a Volkswagon. In fact I have found that the best scores I can obtain is when I don't have the leg adjusters adjusted right on the front and one leg is kind of floating. Then I seem to get just the right amount of movement without throwing my back out.
I found this by accident, but I don't leave it that way. What I need is a secret electric leg adjuster during competition.

Put the Front legs on Wheels!! My Pins in the garage are on wheels for moving them around and my Wife tilts once in a while, She is not impressed!! I, on the other hand, Find it very amusing!

They have this wedgy thing that you use to shimmy drywall up and in place from the bottom. You step on it, it's a fulcrum. Chrome too, would fit right in with the pins, never know it was there, when you need it... whammo, the ball is travelling backwards.
One thing, I have never understood how to do a bang back, I mean, I've tried, but the pinball didn't budge (side, to side is different). Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I figure it's gotta hurt!
There you guys go again, talking up one of the pins I lust after (STNNG),
Just wait until you have to move one...then you will curse it. I don't know if it was just me....but it has to be the worst pin that I can remember moving down a set of stairs. I hear Safecracker is worse... but I have yet to have the pleasure.
I think ST:TNG is the Heaviest game ever!! Maybe Hercules is heavier, and some old Bingo's, But ST:TNG is a Bear!!
