I haven't played either but:

I pick MB because:
-I like Gomez games (NBA excluded)
-I like Monsters
-I like Williams/Bally games best

Not IJ4 because:
-I don't care for John Borg games (but I haven't played Guns N' Roses)
-I'm not impressed by Stern games...They "feel" like Data East quality

However, once I play both I'll know better...

I would start by owning a nice MB if the price was right. (if i was hesitating between both with cash in hands)

Then later on, once i played it enough, i would sell it and buy a HUO IJ4, they will be easier to find in good shape than a MB in my opinion. Same goes for all new Sterns, you can always find them HUO in a few years. WMS games are getting older everyday and harder to find in good shape.

I'm not planning to own either soon but i would like owning them eventually. I played MB a few times and i liked it, i also like what i saw from IJ4 previews videos. I still have LOTR on my "to-own" list before thou, so hopefully by then, IJ4's will be cheaper.

Just my modest opinion.

Currently owning:
- Solar Fire, Medusa, Flash Gordon, (Centaur), No Fear

MB all the way

Seeing all the folks flock to it and wait in line to play it in Allentown really drove the point home.  It's a great fun game and let's face it, there's a reason that after 10 years it's still one of the most sought after games after Medieval Madness..

C'mon this is a silly question - IJ4 all the way!!  The latest in toys and technology with a much wider audience appeal than MB.  Be the first to own a new awesome game or the last to buy an old game.  hmmm - seems obvious to me...  Plus there really is no experience to compare to that new pinball smell.

Monster Bash! Let's talk History! These Universal Monsters have been around for 70 Years!! Well, Mummy, Frankenstein and the Bride anyway. A little later for the Creature and the Wolfman, but they have been around for 50 years! Granted, they weren't in a Band back then, but... Indy, a mere Baby in comparison!

Seriously, IJ4 looks really good, but MB is good too, and in 1 to 5 years, you will still get your money back out of MB if you want to sell it. I am not sure you will be able to say that about IJ4. Is there any New Stern that is worth what they were new, let alone more?

Dave (Still pretty interested in IJ4, I might go play it tomorrow!)

Here are games I would like to acquire this year, or sometime...

24
Iron Man
Attack From Mars  Prefer Pounded playfield!
Monster Bash       Prefer Pounded Playfield!
Elvis
Sopranos
Batman Forever
Spider-Man  Stern  Prefer Pounded Playfield!

Have these available for trade or possible sale:
Corvette
South Park
Theatre of Magic
Twilight Zone
RFM/SW:EP1 Nucore Combo

Since IJ4 isn't out, how can we be expected to give a truely valid opinion? Sylvain makes a valid point that you could buy MB, sell it later and find a nice IJ4 down the road, but....keep in mind you won't be selling the MB locally. It's high priced and, in my opinion, over priced considering the fun factor. Not an easy game to sell locally so keep that in mind. I also think an IJ4 would be hard to sell locally so........

If I were you, I'd play both and decide which one you like.

I believe that MB will always be worth more than IJ4. Case in point, MB is worth more than the Williams IJ which had the same basic hardware and mechanicals (yeah yeah... WPC VS WPC-95... blah blah blah... almost the same).

Now I am not bashing on Stern (I actually love what they are doing!) but Williams went overboard on everything they made (hence a small profit margin), and I doubt that the SAM system is all that much superior. Besides... how many Stern pins have you seen keep their total as-new value after so many years? If a Monster Bash sells for 4000$+, it is because there is a demand for it. Difficult to sell? Yes... but merely because it is 4000+$... not because it is MB. We have 700+ members on MAACA... I doubt that many will own an IJ4. And the ones that do are the same that have had another high-end pin before.

And as stated, you are comparing a well-established pin against one that few have seen and has yet to be released. Kind of useless...

My choice? If IJ4 was as good as IJ? I would rather save 1000$ and get the Williams. And between IJ4 and MB? Yeah... MB is a bit easy, but then again, I would lose interest just as fast on IJ4, so I would rather go for Monster Bash. A timeless theme, and everybody loves the classic monsters, as well as good rock music and good humor!!

Retiring soon...

I've heard that the new movie is bad, star wars prequel bad. If that's true, it might sully your appreciation for the theme. I really hope the movie doesn't ruin my memories and appreciation of Raiders.

On the other hand, the pinball game looks great! Buy it and invite me over. That ark toy looks wicked.
