So my NIB Simpsons machine has finally arrived.  And I am very excited (especially since my IJ machine purchased from jvegas is still in shop after 2 weeks).  One problem, my wife is 7 months pregnant and the shipping guys just dropped off the pallet in my garage.

So there she stands - straight up in the air on the pallet.  I can't find anyone to help me until Saturday morning and I am dieing to set it up.

Any chance of accomplishing this with just me?  Don't get me wrong, I am a big guy but 300lbs is a bit much to move in, put on legs and then tilt up onto the legs.

I live very close to Home Depot and Canadian Tire.  Is there anything I can buy or anything I can use to set this thing up on my own without smashing it wide open?  Please - help - anyone?...

Yes.

Download the video shows from TOPcast (towards the bottom of the page) to see how it's done.

If stairs are involved use a dolly and try not to do it alone.  If the box is in the room to be set up then yes you can do it by yourself.  Watch the above vid there are good tips in there, and be safe you don't want to damage the pin or your body.

Yes...

1- Wheel the pin with a Dolly to the location you want.

2- Remove the pin from the box.

3- If the head is secured to the body (as it should be),
you should be able to "stand" the pinball on it's "back".
If the head is not strapped to the body, use ratchet straps or anything NON-SCRATCHING
to tie the head to the body (...use foam, cardboard or towels if you have to... )

4- With the pin upright, bolt the front legs.  (which should be up in the air )

5- Then (...here is the only tricky part), lower the front of the pin on the newly installed legs,
and then raise the back-end.  At this point, you can find something to prop-up the back-end
while you bolt-in the legs.  (you can use a sawhorse, or any STURDY piece of furniture).

Or, if you feel confident enough, you can actually squat down and rest the pin on your knees
as you bolt the legs (... this requires a bit of balance, ... and your tools within arm's reach !!! )

It's very "do-able" by one person.

...stairs however..., that's another story !

Good Luck.

Cheers,
Steph

Only 5 stairs to go up from garage to main floor.  Not sure if I feel confident to tackle on my own...  gonna have to give it more thought.  Good video - makes it look easy with that small 100lb machine.  This one is 270 lbs!

Only 5 stairs to go up

Down is scary due to the potential of loosing control .. up is tough due to lifting the dead weight

That said go to Cdn tire pick up a P-Dolly (or truck as its properly called)  (as low as $25 on sale) - http://tinyurl.com/yrpvle

buy a few straps (as low as $12 on sale) - http://tinyurl.com/ywe4pb
and lift the sucker.

But seeing as Saturday is only one day away I say buy a case of beer and wait for the friend.

Yes, a steadying extra hand or two to lift up stairs always comes in handy, even with a fridge dolly (which is the better dolly to use on stairs, though I use my "P" dolly for going through mud or snow). Steph outlines the method that most of us use, it surprises the heck out of sellers when I arrive with my "pinball stool" in hand.  The idea being that you are actually lifting less than the whole amount of the weight due to the fulcrum of the front feet, so this part is easier, but still with the larger newer machines, I still tend to ask for help, even for the stool lift.  Make sure if you are alone doing this that you lift from the centre though.  I have over enthusiastically lifted even a lighter pin from the side by accident, only to have the off balance weight nearly pull me over (or at least making a sloppy looking recovery).
