I can't find an opinion poll comparing these two. If there is one that was posted previously please direct me to it. If not your 0.02 is appreciated.
Thanks Todd |

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Steph. I'm not trying to beat the old horse (MM...is it worth it? RGP style). I tried a search but nothing came back. |

No worries... Both are GREAT games and you will not be disappointed by either, but if you have to choose only 1, TSPP (IMHO) is the better game. Cheers. Steph |

I'm going to disagree with Steph and say LOTR is a better game. I have both so no bias on my part.
I guess it comes down to how good a player you are. I bought TSPP a few months ago, so it should have that "new pinball" glow, but I can honestly say LOTR is a better pin for me.
I find TSPP frustrating as hell. I can have a decent game and then a few crap games. There is alot to do, but it's pretty challenging even starting MB. Both couch and Itchy and Scratchy are pretty challenging to start. I just haven't mastered either shot. And if you don't stack a few things with a MB, the game just isn't as fun as it would be otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and it won't go anywhere, I just find it the most frustrating game I own.
LOTR, on the other hand, while challenging is pure fun. The shots are relatively straight forward. You can actually figure the game out without needing to read the rule sheet right away (not true with TSPP). The flow is incredible. It's intense and it's relatively easy to start at least one MB. In fact, I changed the settings to make the Two Towers harder to start. By default, for the first TT MB, you only have to spell KEEP once and then lock the three balls. I have set it so KEEP has to be spelled for each lock. I found this improved the game as it was simply too easy to get the MB going.
Both are great games, but, for me at least, I find LOTR a much more FUN game than TSPP.

I own both, and love both themes. If you want a game with long ball times go for LOTR, if you want a game that kicks your butt almost everytime TSPP is the one to get.

Oh, oh Phil....regrets?? On LOTR vs TSPP - I own TSPP and sold LOTR - buy which theme interests you the most. TSPP is fun and has great jokes and comments even if you don't watch the Simpsons (like me) and LOTR is serious and a beautiful game but you must know LOTR story (which I don't) to appreciate the modes, animations, quotes etc (why I sold it). Both have great gameplay, depth etc so theme was the deciding factor for me.....but MM beats them hands down so keep up your search!!!! I guess you missed Bill Heathley's MM on the weekend on RGP? Great deal! Good luck Todd ME |

What was the scoop on his deals? AFM sold for $2500 - would of driven there in a heart-beat for that - assuming all the usual 'in good shape" caveats... (Hijacking thread - but there's already another thread for LOTR/TSPP) |

I've got to say after owning TSPP and LOTR for a while now, TSPP is the better game. It just has so much to do, every game is diffrent and mystery spot is one of the coolest modes ever in pinball. Flipping the flippers backwards was such an ingenious idea and is so fun to play.
I love LOTR but I think TSPP just edges it out a bit. |
