No, it's not an internet related movie! ehhe

Howdy!

Any fans of chinese martial arts movies?  If you are and have not seen it yet, check out IP Man.  I saw both it and IP Man 2 (which was poor and disappointing, the original raised the bar too high maybe?) at the Mayfair a few weeks ago.  The first IP Man is a great movie, never mind a martial arts movie; it's got good humour at the beginning, great drama later and some very awesome martial arts combat scene.  My wife is not a fan of these types of movies (and I guess, I'm not a fan but I do have an appreciation of them) and she really loved it.

Anyway, it seriously kicked butt and I can't recommend it enough; one of my all-time fav, though granted, it is a short list, I haven't seen that many!

Although a couple of moves may fall into the "impossible", it's not really a wire-fu movie, much more grounded in reality. It's based (very loosely) on the early life of the guy who thought Bruce Lee.  VERY loosely based, but still a great entertaining movie... Chinese propaganda aside (some minor but "key" re-writing of history I think eheh)

I'm curious if anyone has seen it; and what you thought of it.  I think because of how the story was put together; it's certainly crosses over beyond the typical martial films I've seen before.

note:  there are some pretty brutal (ie: realistic violence) action scenes; I've very surprised the chinese sensors didn't ask to have it toned down. I must be behind the times when it comes to their censorship! .  Anyway, keep that in mind if because of this post you want to check it out and have little ones around.

I also enjoyed Ip Man, and was disappointed by the sequel. I tried several other Donnie Yen movies and didn't like any of them. Really the only other great martial arts movie I can think of at the moment is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon which is in a class by itself.

Playable Now: Centaur II, Doctor Who, High Speed. Playable Soon: Breakshot, Sorcerer Later: Flash, Genie, Seawitch Fondly remembered: Firepower

, I've only seen a couple of MST's, but the only one I REALLY liked was "This Island Earth".

For those wondering, the producers of IP Man 2 decided to steal many storyline ideas from hollywood classics such as Rocky II and Rocky IV; I'm talking about lifting scenes right from these movies, especially Rocky IV.  If you're going to rip off the Rocky movies, why the hell would you pick #4???  They went from art to thrash with one sequel and they wonder why Donnie Yen said "it's my last IP Man movie", stating it's because of "over saturation".
