Thanks, but I'm on day 2 of the can method. Can't say as though I've ever experienced rust of this magnitude.

I did 4 legs.  Some took 24 hours, other took 72 hours.  They did eventually come off though with some vice grips.

Can you get your vise grips on the nut and another set of vise grips on the leveler? If so, heat the nut until it glows cherry red, attach your vise grips to the nut, and with your other set on the leveler it should release. This should all be done quickly while the nut is still very hot.

If you are able to, at some point during the soaking method you can try to give the nut a good sharp jolt from a small hammer.  What has happened is that there is both a physical and chemical bond now between the two rusted parts.  Heating or tapping usually helps break the bond, while soaking alone has to wait until the solvent completely eats away at the iron oxide.

My 2 cents.  Sharply tapping a rusted part has sped up the process for me many times.

Occasionally I have found that greasy legs (or those blasted with WD40) actually take longer for a rust solvent to work through.  That may be because the grease acts as an initial barrier to the solvent.  I  don't know if this is science or voodoo though, just an anecdotal observation as I have used degreaser first and then a rust remover like Evapo Rust (Home Hardware) with some success.   I usually remove rust from legs by soaking them in a wall paper trough full of Evapo Rust for a day and then take out the leg bolts if I couldn't easily do it before and it seems to be easier afterwards.  Makes most legs shiny again too with a little scrubbing.

"Hot nuts"

I wish!  My nuts were stuck in the tube and it took steam heat and a lot of force to get them back out.

You guys are mean to your nuts.  Heating them with torches and dipping them in stuff for days on end.  Then you whack them with a hammer.

When I have a problem with nuts I just call the wife
